Lucius didn’t answer at once. It took a moment for the words to reach his ears through the stuffiness inside them. When his cold-addled brain finally processed them, it took a moment for him to muster the courage to answer. His throat felt like he had swallowed glass, and chased it with whiskey.

“Okay,” he said, so softly he wasn’t sure someone with less-acute hearing than Yuan would’ve caught it.

He was, of course, concerned about the ancient mage getting sick. But a this point, he was miserable. He wrapped his arms around himself, trying to conserve just a little more warmth.
