The Illusion Beast

(Their name is Ferdinand! Thank you @olliethescribe for the name suggestion :] )

Made some art of the creature that dwells in and watches over the pocket dimension Hypno can access through his hat and jacket (pocket dimension).

He uses any pronouns. Its form can vary greatly, but currently Ferdinand has taken on some traits of ringneck doves and rabbits—influenced by the doves and rabbits Hypno keeps there. (See under the read more for her original form.) The illusion beast hopes to be accepted by Hypno (but hasn’t worked up the courage to approach him directly yet. She eventually will and will ask Hypno for a name. He’ll name the illusion beast Ferdinand.) They get along well with most of the doves, pigeons, and rabbits :]

They’re a bit transparent and liquid-like and can change to be any size. The wings can change proportion too, and his color can shift to be more heavily blue, purple, or pink.

illusion beasts live in pocket dimensions that connect to some reality through a person that lives in that reality, referred to as an anchor

people can find an illusion beast’s pocket dimension through “gateways,” usually in lonely or forgotten places or through especially vivid dreams or daydreams, they usually are found by those with powerful imaginations

Ferdinand’s last two anchors (before Hypno) were a lighthouse keeper and a child who was living in a hospital

illusion beasts take on the form of something inspired by their anchor’s interests: for the lighthouse keeper, Ferdinand became a whale, for the child, Ferdinand became a red chestnut horse (he went by a different name for each form though)

things between illusion beasts and their anchors didn’t always go well, some anchors discovered that materials from an illusion’s beast’s dimension could be used in producing magic spells, but the spells were potentially dangerous and always damaged the pocket dimensions

there used to be many more illusion beasts that would allow their pocket dimensions to connect to earth, but almost all of them have gone away, merging their pocket dimensions into a larger dimension that they live in now and change to their own liking, but Ferdinand got left behind and she can’t remember why

Hypno does steal something from Ferdinand’s pocket dimension to create a spell (the fashion montage spell, according to my headcanon: read through this post if you want to know more) but it was before he met Ferdinand, and he returns what he can and apologizes; the two still end up becoming friends
