There are a lot of #illustration courses, but Mike Lowery’s are THE BEST. I almost never recommend other people’s courses because I’m so picky about this stuff, being a teacher, myself. But Mike is awesome. His latest course covers STYLE, adding variety to your work, licensing, agents, BOOK DEALS, the business side of illustration, how to find new clients, and even taxes. Jump on this course here!
I’m super excited to announce that Skillshare won the Webby Award! Thank you so much to everyone who voted! 💛✨If you’d like to take my online class too, you can for free with this 2-month trial: skl.sh/vanessa
Here’s both fully colored and with a background. May post the flats and without background later.
Had fun and got a lotta positive feedback during critique today. Printer was nearly accurate with the colors but did darken part of his armor too much.
Shoot may continue this as a side project in the future. More Samurai Jack in XCOM shenanigans.
EDIT: Added face details. As long as I am credited, I do not mind these(THE FACE SHOTS) being used as icons. All you need to do is credit me in your description or something. Do not claim these icons/work as your own.
Little story explanation I imagine below.
My illustration professor handed these out during class since we're working on graphic novels and they look like surreal memes
*Engineer noises* YEEEEEEEEEEE!
Inks are done so I want to give you guys a sneak peak! May have a few more things to touch up but officially onto the coloring stage with this and hopefully will be printing by tomorrow night before class Friday.
Assignment ‘A’ was called avatar which was take a character/person/etc. from what ever genre and put them into another genre/time/etc and have two poses for the character; one static pose and one active.
I chose Samurai Jack and decided to throw him into the world of XCOM 2 because I happened to be playing it at time.
Small story I imagine is Aku getting one last F-you just as Jack defeats him(past or Present Aku) and casts him through time but this time he crosses dimensions and ends up in the world of XCOM. He’d probably be solo for the first few years before he befriends the Skirmishers(main inspiration for armor) and then eventually joining up with XCOM. I see him mostly using his sword and various magical artifacts, but would carry a pistol and a few other things but prefers being light.
Should I add a beard? But not the beard of sorrow he has going on in season 5.
Okay putting both versions up since I’ve had a few days to cool down from that stressful situation. So this was for project 1 in my illustration. I believe it was a setting with a story without using characters or something similar to that.
Was interesting painting over the grayscale. Learned a lot and hated a lot of it hehe.
Best viewed in another window! And hopefully I’ll get around to posting close ups later.
Recent model drawings I did in my Illustration college class :3
