“Gifts for Skylla” - oil on board, 13x30 Brand new painting available, hot off the easel for IlluXcon! Framed in black with a handmade, gold-leafed arch inset. 🙌🏻 I love stories of the monstrous tempered with the vulnerable. One of my favorites is that of Skylla, punished for a love she didn’t return... Glaucus the fish-God loved Skylla and lavished her with gifts, though she did not reciprocate his love. So he begged the witch Circe for a love potion to bring Skylla around. But Circe, jealous and wanting Glaucus for herself, gave him something else...when Skylla drank it, it transformed her into a horrible six-headed monster! The cursed creature then fled to a straight in Calabria (so they say) where she feasted on sailors until her death at the hands of Hercules. I wondered what it would be like for her, young and naïve, to get a nightmare glimpse of her gruesome fate, Glaucus’s final gift. #scylla #mythology #artistsoninstagram #oilpainting #illustration #illuxcon #greekmythology #goldleaf https://www.instagram.com/p/B3zl4YIjUYd/?igshid=1ts0zy8i4mhdi
