In the evening the spearhead, Jaeger Battalion 2 was engaged by the German Grenadier Regiment 378 on the Kaunispää Fell. Heavily fortified lines were left-flanked by the Jaeger Battalions 3 and 4, surrounding the enemy. . However, the Grenadiers gathered all automatic guns on the trucks, forming a convoy where the infantry marched between them. Shooting continuously on the sides of the road they managed to break through and reach Ivalo. . Eventually the Germans retreated from there, too, pursued by the Soviets. So when the Finns arrived, they found not only a totally demolished municipality, but also their former enemies. . These PzKpfw IVs are Finnish, crossing the Merikoski bridge in Oulu city.
