From the moment he laid eyes on her on the battlefield, the tension that had been created a lifetime ago reignited like a lazy flame. White hot and smoldering just blow the surface, but still enough to make him nervous. It was almost as if he were nineteen again, fawning over some pretty little thing he couldn't have. Now, times were different, but unlike before, neither approached the other to speak. Cullen stayed silent on his side of the table, and Rebekkah on hers, and that was what worked for them.

Except it didn't.

Not at all.

The tension only rose the longer they stayed silent around one another, until finally, it felt as if it was going to burst. Then, she left for the Hinterlands, releasing him from her hold, even if only for a few days. He went about his business, continued his work training and delegating the troops at his disposal, and brushed her out of his mind the whole time she was gone. It was easier not to think about her, how he'd been obsessing since she walked back into his life. Things were going well, and he'd felt more himself the whole while.

She returned on a warmer day, the sun leaking through the clouds and gracing Haven with a glow that have moral up impressively high. She walked in looking like a porcelain doll, and the brief jerk of his head up when she walked in nearly had him spinning. They talked about missions, things she'd missed, and Cassandra clues Rebekkah in on every little detail. Still had they yet to really speak anything to aside from a few works here or there. The meeting was over quickly, and Cassandra, Leliana, and Josephine scurried to leave the small room, the door slaving behind them

Cullen tried the handle and sighed. Of course. "Looks like we may be here a while." He grimaced, wiggling the handle again before dropping his hand. It hadn't really occurred to him that this was the most they'd spoke in over a decade. "I wonder what would possess them to lock us in here without explanation."
