Effortless Underwater Photography

Artist and photographer Ilse Moore is a master of underwater photography.

Her control over the fluid element allows her to feature fashion and portraits with the surreal effect surrounding her submerged subjects.

A dramatic flair accompanies her visuals, striking motion of garments flowing as though caught in  a wind drown out noise and other distractions from the compositions. Most of her subjects are held in a trance like listlessness, where even the light seems subdued and carefree filter through the crystal blue depths. Moore skillfully orchestrates these unpredictable photography conditions into strict yet effortless works of art.

Ilse Moore is a South African full-time photographer who specializes is underwater fashion and fine art photography.

While my underwater photography often involves commercial, fashion and bridal shoots, my conceptual work speaks of a subconscious denial of reality. I have always been attracted to surreal imagery. I believe that photography as a medium lends a kind of realism to these ‘fantasies’, allowing it to exist in closer relationship to the viewer. I like that it suggests the possibility of an indiscernible truth. Shooting underwater seemed like the logical next step in finding a balance between the surreal world and my own reality…
