ok thinking thoughts. but. like the dynamic they’re setting up between robert and kev just now is soooo interesting because kev doesn’t understand the outside world and he doesn’t know how to function in it - he’s been in prison for his entire adult life, basically, and so the society he’s used to is the society contained within a prison and he understands that social hierarchy and his place in that. but now he’s out of prison and he’s in the ~ real world ~ again except he doesn’t understand this world or the social hierarchy or how it all works. him flipping out at matty was proof of that - in prison that’s a threat, in the village it’s just matty wanting robert to pull the finger out and do his job.
and it completely flips his relationship with robert because even though robert was in prison for six years he spent the majority of his adult life in quote unquote the real world and robert understands how it works and he understands the societal rules and expectations in a way that kev just. doesn’t.
so they’re now in a situation where robert is the one who’s got the knowledge and power as a result of him just. understanding how life works outside of prison. and given from what we’ve seen of their dynamic, and been told so far, kev was the powerful, well respected one in prison - but in emmerdale he’s just roberts odd cell mate who doesn’t know how to exist outside of prison. it’s the kind of flip to their power dynamic that you can imagine kev not liking or not being able to cope with.
there’s no point to this post other than i just think it’s terribly interesting
