Hey, I wrote a (long) poem about Jack and Yusei's friendship/rivalry throughout YuGiOh 5Ds as symbolised by the different phases of the moon!
-Inspired by the first episodes that used the moon to symbolise Jack and Yusei's connection between Satellite and Neo Domino!
The Phases of the Moon:
Yusei Fudo + Jack Atlas,
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds
A heart that feels adored, a mind brimming with thought,
A well-fed tummy, or a purse stuffed with money:
These examples to mind are not of the same kind
Of the perfect fullness, at all, no they are all quite banal.
The full moon is the best example of perfection that’s ample
Enough to signify the valuable tie
Of two friends, that takes presence after losing their parents
To that one horrid curse: Zero Reverse.
Through such hard grief, as their lives’ aperitif,
They promised each other (though whilst not brothers)
That their bond would be strong and last a life long.
Their childhood was close; so this story’s all the more morose.
Waning Gibbous - Third Quarter - Waning Crescent
A meal just begun, the slow-setting sun,
Or a pile of sand that slips through the hand:
The diminishing, fading, of what I am naming
Is not saddening enough. Next it gets rough:
Third-Quarter from Waning, its light is draining,
The dark shade spreads, over the light’s face it treads.
It’s much like the shadow that blocks the glow
From the bond, soon disarray, of Jack and Yusei.
A dark, cold night, Rally given a fright,
Set aside, afloat, and of his invite Jack gloats,
Jack left his best friend, and on Yusei’s bike in lend,
He went to Domino: with this he turned foe.
Emptiness, overcome by dark, blended into the night city sky.
Overwhelmed by the synthetic lights of buildings and bikes,
The coldness, disappearance, of a light once shining high
Gives us the tension, the hatred, of rival dislike.
The New Moon hides amongst its nightly crowd,
A black spot amongst twinkling, shining stars.
The King himself, though powerful and loud,
Is shadowed by a past, by cut bonds and mental scars.
Revving engines, high stakes, and a crowd once in strife
From the success of a stranger, who battles their King:
Overcoming all odds. A Signer, skills rife.
He defeats his old friend; their bond he shall defend.
Waxing Crescent - First Quarter - Waxing Gibbous
Blowing up a balloon, a shedding cocoon,
Pouring a drink, refilling a pen’s ink;
The renewed hope that returns, like summer-blooming ferns,
Is infinitely happier than this bond torn like paper.
As light fills up the moon’s dark cup,
The void that was left in the sky post-bike theft -
The wound, the scar, that left Jack and Yusei far
Apart is healing; the moon’s light now returning.
Dark Signers, Iliaster: threats that pose disaster,
Thwarted by the Crimson Dragon’s crew; and Team 5Ds too.
But finally through their teamwork, the challenges that lurk,
Jack and Yusei with their tensions did away!
A heart that is adored, a mind bursting with thought!
A stuffed-up tummy, or purse overflowing money:
These examples are not nearly the same that’s dearly
Filled-up, renewed and brightest - no, not in the slightest!
Only the returning full moon, a cyclic tale festooned
By sorrow and sadness, by love and gladness,
Is fitting to symbolise the bright, powerful ties
Between the two closest friends, racing together through the bends
And turns and twists of life, past all this tethering strife!
But now, the future: Jack leaves to become the ruler,
Whilst Yusei remains, a professor building mainframes.
They one again distanced, but their lives remained in coexistence.
Because unlike in the past, when their bond had crashed
And skidded to a halt once Jack left Satellite (that first result...),
Their bond had now repaired, and by life’s bonds they were paired:
Just as the full moon doth glow,
So too does the bond of Yusei Fudo
And Jack Atlas; rival, friend, and bro.
