F me...

I feel like a moron… For last couple of years I have been working in both retail and hospitality. I know that there are rude and stupid customers whom everyone hates, and polite, well-mannered customers who are a pleasure to work with. Since I have this knowledge I always try to be a good customer, clearly state what I want, patient, calm and I’m just terrific at it.

Then last week happened...

Two weeks ago I went shoe-shopping for some dress shoes. Shoe-shopping for me is a pain in the ass, because I have humongous feet, but I got used to it and my go-to place has some a small selection in my size although they often have to back-order it or I take a look at a smaller size and if I love it I just order it for myself (<3 online retailing ^^).

But these were dress shoes and I wanted to try them on beforehand to see if I can probably spend 10+++ hours in them. They had 2 options, none of them present in the store so I obviously told them to back-order it and I’d try them on sometime later.

I was minding my own business a couple days later (probably watching sitcoms on my phone ^^) when I got two text messages: the order for one of the shoes couldn’t be completed and the other shoe arrived to the store and I have 7 days to take it. Luckily the shoe that was unavailable was the one I liked less so I was somewhat happy.

Later that week I went shopping with my parents and one of the stops was the shoe store. I went in calmly, I’m a pro at this, I’m so 21st century hahh, just give it to me, I try it on, confirm that I look awesome and go get my suit. Then shit hit the fan!

I asked an assistant for help with an order, she went to look for it and... it wasn’t there! I was like, oooookay, that’s weird... Then she had to go and mind her own business and I went to look for another assistant, who also checked it and nothing then she went to the counter where the first assistant checked the computer, nothing, also there weren’t any other shoes left from that kind in that size. I felt betrayed, probably rolled my eyes at the assistant and defeated, we left the store...

Then the other day while working I got a text message. The shoe I ordered arrived. Hahh! They try to make it right be sending another text message! Like this previous one wouldn’t be enough of a proof that, ohh... Wait a moment...

This previous text message I got is from a different shoe. Ohh. Also, it is from a different.. year... I got this text 2 years ago... How dumb can I be? I didn’t realize neither that one of the texts was from 2 years ago, nor that I received the first message on May 6th while the second one on May 5th... Time travel is real guys!

So today I made myself a trip to the shoe store, hoping that I’m not going to meet my “friend”. So I walk towards the store, big windows so I can see in and who is at the counter? Of course it’s her! My favorite cashier ^^. So I went in with a silent Good Afternoon! hoping that she didn’t recognize me and started to look for an assistant between the aisles. Of course there were none of them! Are you serious? No one?!?!

Well, I didn’t have any other options but to go to the counter and ask my “friend” for help hoping that she doesn’t recognize me. Ohh, she did... As soon as I stepped to her and started talking I could see it in her eyes that she remembers... I swear, when I told her that my order arrived I could even see a victorious smile in the corner of her lips...

But she went over to the closet (of course she did, it’s her job...) and started looking for my shoe. Of course she found it, because now I actually got a text message not just imagined it. I took the box and went into one of the aisles to try it on where she couldn’t see me and I just realized that I was a huge jerk to her the other day.

Luckily the shoes fit, they are not even terrible (although far from a 10/10) but I got used to the fact that I sometimes have to make compromises when shoe-shopping.Then there was only one more thing left to do: meet my arch-enemy again!

She politely (who am I kidding, the whole time she had an “I told you so” grin on her face...) if the size was right, I told her yeah, it fits and I’ll take it. I paid, politely declined her offer for some shoe products and left the store. 

Totally destroyed I while I was walking back to the car I accepted that I was a terrible customer, the kind of that I hate to serve and I should burn in a special place in hell for this.

But then luckily Spotify saved me with my most recent go-to song and I realized that I am a fucking positive and happy person who has a terrible memory so I just forgot about it all and went on minding my own business! 

(And now I showcase my stupidity by writing about this memory so it will stick with me forever :D )
