Win the war with an army of sheep!
I found a description of a leadership: an army of sheep led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a sheep. This sentence demonstrated how important a lion in the army of sheep. This sentence also applies to the 21st century，a great leader is the most important part of a team. The importance of leadership decided he needed to have a lot of excellent qualities. According to my course Interactive digital media, I would like to talk about two important qualities of a leader and two best practices in the media industry.
Interdisciplinary Thinking：A media industry leaders need to spend a lot of time to understand the other industries, they really need to understand the role, values and development of other industries. Why they need this best practice? In the 21st century, many industries cannot develop without the support of the network, and the network and the media industry has a very close relationship, so that the media industries and other industries have intersection. As a leader in the media industry, they must understand every industry, in order to discover new business opportunities. Now, many industries are now mixed types. I have been on this course for two months, and we learn a lot of different aspects of knowledge, like Management Marketing, video and Programming Science. It also gives a support to interdisciplinary thinking is important in media industry.
Visionary Leadership：Media industry leaders must be visionary and proactive，they has ambitions to influence others and want to have a leadership and their courage to take responsibility. Media industry development speed is always faster than some of the other industrial development. Media industry leaders need to find a new way by themselves. Walking a new way is very dangerous, but if someone is successful, he gets a lot of benefits. This is why people are so interested in the media industry; it has a lot of uncertainty opportunities. How to walk on the new way? In my opinion, It needs visionary leadership. In this new way, they need to keep their faith and enthusiasm, whatever the outcome, leaders must take responsibility, then the subordinates will follow in their footsteps. In our course, we also talk about the different about the manger and leader. I think the visionary leadership is the most different between manger and leader.
Above all, I talk about what I understand about the interdisciplinary thinking and visionary leadership in media industry leadership. I know there are a lot of qualities about leadership, but I think these two qualities are more important than others in media industry when I learn from this course. If a leader focus on two qualities, then he can win the war.
