It almost feels like a joke to play out a part

He wasn’t doing this blindly.
Kageyama knew you weren’t in this. He knew you saw him as an side, or maybe even as an extra. He’d always been told to stop trying to be the center of attention, but here he was again. Wishing he could be your number one. But you weren’t in it.
He always knew at the back of his mind that you weren’t in it for him, that you didn’t love him. Part of him didn’t care, because at least he’d get to be around you if he ignored it. But the other piece of him was so in love with you that every moment hurt. His chest tightened every time you didn’t look back at him, every day you didn’t bother to even carry a conversation with him. You didn’t even bother to tell him you appreciated the time he spent with you, not that that would make him stop wanting to be around you.
He never slept after being with you. He instead felt that familiar questioning regret. Had it really been worth it? Were you really in it just for the fun of it? How could you be willing to be that intimate with him if you didn’t care? He watched you sleep, dim light from a streetlight outside his window casting a distorted shadow of light on your cheek.
You were so damn pretty, so perfect. Your hands — your voice — your eyes... he couldn’t get enough of you, and knew he never would.
Why couldn’t you just love him? Why did you have to use him like this? And why did the difference have to be so painful?
Kageyama knew you didn’t love him. Of course you didn’t. He couldn’t have everything. But he couldn’t let go of you, either, because you were the thing he loved most. He would prefer to be alone than stuck in this kind of situation, but you were the exception to all his morals. So, he would continue to play this joke of a part in your life.
He wouldn’t get to audition again. Maybe there were no small parts, but he still wished he had nothing to do with you because he didn’t get the starring role.
