I have been neglecting my writing exercises. I wanted to take this opportunity to note some things that have come up in my recent experience in photographing people again. I have shot with a handful of acquaintances and found that in this selfie age, people have a very warped and unrealistic image of themselves. Society is definitely experiencing some filter dysmorphia. Definitely guilty of this. BUT out of the five people I have had the pleasure to photograph, 4 of them where not happy with the way they looked in the images. Posting a selfie has become a hefty process of altering and filtering a picture of ones self in to the perfect image that person wants portrayed to the world. I need to understand that their dislike of their natural image is not a reflection of my ability to take a picture but their warped image of themselves.
