I noticed something, in the wiki Batilda's last name is probably spelled wrong as there is no 'u' in the last name. I checked book 5 and there it's 'Lamont' so, no one really noticed it?

I am pretty sure that the book one is the correct one.

I was wondering something about haunting the narrative in stories and this made me think, do you think imogen haunted the narrative in book 3?

As far as I know a character who haunts the narrative is a character whose presence in the story itself is sparse to none but whose actions have major consequences to the story and help to build the theme of the work.

So all characters dead or thought dead don't haunt the narrative unless they have a major impact on the theme of the story. as war would have happened whether imogen was present or not as vargan wanted war to happen and jaron would have wanted to win the war whether she was dead or not. the death was only used for romance and not for the major theme of book 3. also imogen is only important to jaron and not to important in the story to anyone else. maybe to some extent she is important to amarinda and mott but not to the whole of carthya as a war would require her to be. did carthyans much cared when she was thought dead? we don't know that. as in a war like scenario that might have impacted the narrative and made it look like she was haunting the narrative.

So apparently with everyone talking about imogen sometimes randomly and mourning or talking with jaron about being in love with her I don't think imogen's fake death didn't tick the boxes and is haunting the narrative.

In short I found the definition that clears this confusion up: if the story cannot work without them but also cannot work if they’re present/alive? They might just be haunting the narrative.

So whether book 3 had happened if imogen didn't take the arrow. yes maybe differently but it might have been almost the same. hence my conclusion.

On a different note, yes sage was jaron but before that revelation in book 1 I feel like Jaron was haunting the narrative certainly as without the pirate attack and Jaron’s fake death the story wouldn't have existed.

What are your thoughts about this? I am curious.

I will never understand why devils' scope was the relationship issue in book 5. Jaron had that from all his friends and only his relationship with Imogen got ruined? And Imogen too, if Jaron had it from everyone why did she have to sound like Jaron should have told it to her? And Jaron had been keeping secrets for 4 whole books. Why was she marrying Jaron if she needs all his secrets to do it? Can someone explain it?

I get she wanted him to be honest but when Jaron hid it from everyone she shouldn't have acted like Jaron should have told this to her.

I feel the secret about why Imogen was Conner's servant could have been their relationship issue than the devils' scope as that didn't concern their friends but only Imogen.

I don't like jarogen but I wonder about this even now.

A major difference between Erin and Imogen I noticed is that Erin was said to have enjoyed a fair status before being in debts and had good education but Imogen was poor all her life so I feel like Imogen only knows how to read and write but nothing more. So I wonder why carthyans even accept Imogen when she has no education to be the queen. Shouldn't she have got the education at some point.

Also I also notice that people think she was a wonderful queen but let's be honest, Imogen wouldn't have been queen if the protagonist hadn't fallen for her. Having a royal ancestry can make you royal but not queen. So I wonder why carthyans never objected to Imogen becoming queen even before book 5? Book 1 said carthaya wanted a reputable queen. Imogen doesn't even understand politics and need to learn it. I have no problems with commoners being queen but I feel Imogen should have been educated to be queen before her marriage. It's so weird people doubted Jaron when he was trained as a royal but they don't doubt Imogen who has worked in kitchen and can do gardening but haven't received the education like royalties or her friends received in the books. Even Roden was trained to be royal and was later taught by his father. But what happened to Imogen? Is she the most uneducated person of the group?

Funny that she is Faylinn's descendant who was said to be knowledgeable though she and her mother didn't know about Faylinn before book 5. Maybe levitimas should try to teach Imogen.

Unpopular opinion: if it's not in character for the characters in a ship before the ship was confirmed the characters making out often in front of their friends or doing pda can just make me hate a ship too.
