Other ppl have mentioned and covered a lot of the points about how Imogen screams queer (other than her relationship with Launda) but I need to scream more about Imogen Temult.
The reason Imogen is much an obvious metaphor for queerness because she has been so othered during her life. She’s raised by a father and I’m sure they were close but once her powers come into play, he distanced himself and so everyone else. God if that doesn’t ring true to so many ppls coming out story. Imogens dad doesn’t even want to feel this way towards Imogen. He loves her but she makes him so uncomfortable. He’s also worried about what other ppl think because they aren’t a fan of her either. Just her being makes him keep her at arms length. I loved the Matt described it as a “gulf” between them. Because that’s it right there. Not all homophobia parents are “I hate you now and I’m gonna disown you.” So many homophobia parents say “I love you” but their kids can feel the new distance btw them. Yeah it’s okay that you’re gay but suddenly your relationship with them is changed. There are awkward pauses where there wasn’t before and hugs are more rare and slowly but also suddenly everything is different. It’s just so obvious with Imogen even without Laura having to say it all explicitly.
