In the early 1870s, Monet and his contemporary ‘impressionist’ painters were often unappreciated or flat out rejected by the Parisian art establishment, i.e., those who accepted or rejected what would go on show in the top galleries across the city.
In 1874, a group of artists including Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Sisley and Berthe Morisot resorted to exhibiting their own work independently at the Boulevard des Capucines. The exhibition didn’t sell well and was considered a critical failure.
And even paintings such as the above ^ were criticised. One person remarked that the people in this painting looked like “black tongues”.
Phenomenal Art of Modern Speed Painting
Entertaining the people by impressive painting within minutes is what these modern art painters do. Art has always been the best entertainment. Whether in form of dance, decoration or painting, art is meant to entertain as well as give some meaning to the people. Modern art painters have been in fashion for a few years. After they appeared in talent shows on TV, since then there has been a rise in the speed painter events.
When art is developed for entertainment, usually a speed painter comes into the picture. Today, there are so many speed painters who have beautifully amused people in various shows. It is an artistic technique where the artist finishes the art in a certain time period. This time can vary from show to show. In competitive shows, usually, the time is very limited. In events, this time can vary from a few minutes to a few hours as well. In some shows, there is some music going on at one side and the painter paints at the other side, so that the audience does not get bored.
Nowadays, corporate parties and events also invite modern art painters for the entertainment of their guests. This has been a new trend and which is really a great chance for artists to showcase their talent as well as earn handsomely.
These artists are also called impressionist painters as they impressively put the art in front of the people within less time. It needs a huge practice to paint at speed. Right from sketches to sceneries, these artists can paint anything. Many painters have such a great visualization, that they keep it a secret about what they paint till the end. And at the last moment, the audience is just amazed at the art. Many artists have become famous for speed painting and made their art a profitable career as well. They set up their own shows for marketing and also go in the TV shows.
If you are looking forward to some unique entertainment for your event or a party, calling a speed painter can be a great idea. It may be a corporate party, an award function, a TV show or a big family function, do think of this classic way of entertainment.

Macedonian artist Vladimir Ilievski does these amazing drawings in blue ink! Check out his store on SaatchiArt. There are on-demand prints, yes, but his prices for originals are not too bad, either. Ilievski also does regular (color) paintings of animals, landscapes and celebrities in an Impressionist style.
