Warm (Drabble Challenge)
2. “Here, wear my jacket.” + Kyungsoo
The rain was falling steadily outside as you spent the morning hours tucked tightly against Kyungsoo. The blankets were wrapped snugly around the two of you, the laptop set across from you at the foot of the bed.
His fingers played in your hair, and he sighed softly as the first movie finished.
The credits rolled, and you poked him gently.
‘You pick next,’ you said.
Kyungsoo shook his head and smiled.
‘You can pick anything you want to watch,’ he said. He kissed the top of your head and sat back to let you at the laptop.
You felt him watching you carefully as you scrolled through the possible selections. You partially wondered at this cinematic freedom you had been granted. You tested it by hovering over something you knew he would think was stupid, looking back at him in curiosity.
Kyungsoo shrugged with the same sleepy smile pasted on his face.
You shook your head in disbelief and went back to scrolling.
‘I knew you were bluffing,’ he said, chuckling. He squeezed your leg playfully.
You quickly clicked on a random title without really looking at it, getting back up and hurrying back to the warmth of the blankets.
Kyungsoo held them up and wrapped both them and his arms around you.
Your heart skipped a beat as he settled around you with his chin on your shoulder.
It was halfway through the movie, with Kyungsoo fast asleep and tucked against you, that your phone went off on the bedside stand.
Kyungsoo whined as you leaned away from him to check it.
‘No, stay,’ he said with his voice muffled against your shoulder.
‘You’re so weird, I’m not going anywhere.’
This only prompted further whining as he clung to you more tightly.
‘I’m not weird, I just love you a lot,’ mumbled Kyungsoo.
You finally stretched yourself long enough to reach your phone, unlocking it as Kyungsoo dragged you back into his bubble. This time he used his legs as well, tying himself around you like a complicated sailor’s knot and pinning you in place.
He kissed your cheek, but didn’t retreat, leaving his lips pasted against your face for a few more moments.
‘What does Jae want?’
‘To go for coffee and talk,’ you said succinctly after reading the message.
You sat up and started to get up, but there was no one more stubborn than Kyungsoo after he had set his mind to something. This time was no different, and it ended with you having to peel him off of you, leaning down to kiss him reassuringly before going to get ready.
When you came back from the bathroom to get dressed, he was still splayed across the mattress just as you had left him.
His eyes rounded and his bottom lip stuck out in a pout.
‘Babe, I’m cold,’ said Kyungsoo, his tone lilting into a whine.
You pulled a knit sweater over your head, settling it around your waist before reaching for your tights. You wanted to go over and pull the blankets up over him, kiss him goodbye, but you knew that once you were back in his arms, it would be impossible to leave.
‘Use the blankets,’ you said. Knowing that you sounded so emotionless and hard made you a little sad, but it was for the best. ‘I have to go.’
You started down the hall, putting on your boots slowly. You opened the door, but froze as you felt the wave of damp cold billow over you. The thought occurred to reschedule with Jae and crawl back in with Kyungsoo.
Before you could make up your mind either way, soft footsteps padded down the hall. You turned to see Kyungsoo in just his boxers coming towards you.
He yawned and scratched his chest absentmindedly, smiling as his gaze met yours. He shivered as he reached you, slipping arms around your midriff.
‘You’re not going out in just that, are you?’ he said with concern. His lips pressed warmly against your cheek as he peered out the door from behind you.
‘I should be fine. It’s not far to the café from here,’ you said.
Kyungsoo shook his head.
‘No, I’m going to worry about you too much.’
Kyungsoo stepped back and opened the closet. He picked one of his knit beanies from the top shelf, pulling it down over your head and making sure your ears were tucked inside the brim.
‘I just did my hair!’ you complained.
‘You look amazing,’ he said complacently. ‘Here, wear my jacket too.’
He went back to the closet and pulled his jacket from the hook it was hanging on. He held it out for you, and you sighed as you acquiesced, slipping your arms into the sleeves. Kyungsoo beamed as he brought it up over your shoulders. He swung around and did the zipper up to your chin.
‘Oh my god,’ you said quietly.
‘There. Nice and warm,’ he said with a smile.
Kyungsoo pulled on the hood strings, using them to pull you closer and capture your lips with his.
‘Don’t take too long,’ he whispered as he came up for air.
It was with much regret and longing that you peeled yourself away from Kyungsoo, who kissed you goodbye one more time before closing the door behind you.
You walked speedily through the rain to the coffee shop, grabbing your order and sitting down across from Jae.
‘Let’s make this quick,’ you said as your phone buzzed in your hand.
You opened the video message from Kyungsoo, staring blankly at your screen as you saw its contents.
Kyungsoo, lying flat across the warm pile of blankets you had abandoned, smiled up at the camera, winking as he began to peel down his boxers.
You coughed and sputtered into your coffee and did your best not to make a scene.
