Dying Light - Harran City Blog Timeline

November 3, 2014 Doctor Khalim Abbas and nurse Sumry received the Merit of Harran award.

November 29-30, 2014 Harran Local Elections. Erol Asani is elected mayor of Harran. His victory is announced the following Monday.

December 13, 2014 Car-Free Day in Harran

December 21, 2014 Harran Film Festival 2014

It is after the film festival that blog posts regarding unusual attacks, extreme cases of flu, and a growing epidemic in Harran start, implying that the outbreak began in early 2015. There are no other regular event posts after these begin.

Upon the official Harran announcement of the epidemic, the blog notes that “... all mass events are now canceled.” The Ministry then publicly announces their cooperation with the GRE in attempt to combat the virus.

A few weeks after the beginning of the outbreak, a field hospital is set up at the stadium.

Now, the order of the posts aren’t necessarily trustworthy since the post about Erol winning his election after the end of November was posted before Abbas and Sumry getting their award at the beginning of November.

But, if one chooses to put faith in the blog posts being in order, then the quarantine wall was erected after the field hospital was set up, meaning, weeks after the outbreak.

Volunteers are called to the field hospital to test for a cure.

At this point, Rais is appointed commander-in-chief of Harran’s military.

Jade says she meets Amir right after the outbreak. Dr. Camden says he got separated from Dr. Zere and Amir and they ended up in the slums while he ended up in Old Town. Camden also says that he and Zere “stayed in the quarantine to work on the cure.” The word “stayed” here and the fact that they were to be evacuated with the help of Amir implies to me that they weren’t brought in after the quarantine was erected, but before, meaning the GRE hired them very early in the outbreak. Camden confirms in game that they arrived before Rais’ brother, Hassan, was killed.

The opening sequence for the DL game says that “The eyes of the world have been glued to the city of Harran for the past two months...” An NPC in the Tower can also be heard saying they’ve been trapped in the quarantine for three months. Tally marks can be found on the walls of the Tower equaling eighty-three days. Rahim says that Brecken set up the Tower “a couple of months ago,” so a 2-3 month span of the quarantine is relatively consistent.

This leads us to:

January, 2015 Beginning of outbreak of Harran Virus.  Ministry publicly working with GRE. Dr. Camden and Dr. Zere hired by GRE to research the virus.

Late January - Early February, 2015 Field Hospital set up at Stadium with a request for volunteers to test for cure. Quarantine wall is put up. Amir is dropped by GRE into Harran.

May 2015 Kyle Crane is dropped by GRE into Harran. Unconscious for 70+ hours after arrival.

Any following events are game exclusive and won’t be noted here.

The first, glaring issue with this timeline is that is doesn’t set up any space for the Harran Athletic Games to actually occur. Posters and billboards in DL say the games were in 2014, but the blog starts in November of 2014 with no mention at all about them. And if the games were in 2014, why are there still posters and billboards up when the outbreak happens in 2015?

Even if we were to blame Harran’s public comity and claim the remaining advertisements for the games just hadn’t yet been removed, there are zombie models in DL that are dressed in athletic gear for the games, as if the outbreak happened while they were in the city.

The second issue is that even if the games were set to happen in 2015, the blog implies the games were cancelled all together with the “... all mass events are now canceled,” line.

Overall, I think the Harran Blog sequence of event are the least likely to have actually occurred, having the most contradictions and inconsistent lore.
