Happy Pride Month!! It's the last day of Pride Month for me so I had to get this done today. Here are five OC's belonging to @thewrittenpost
Top to bottom:
Scarlet (Bisexual)
Lou (Non-binary (right? Sorry if I get it wrong))
Imrasil (Asexual)
Korith (Lesbian)
Ardos (Pansexual)
I took a looooot of creative freedom with the last three, considering I don't know what they looked like.
Imrasil is the God of Knowledge and Prophecy, so I gave him unusual eyes for his 'sight'. And words all over his skin for the knowledge part. I don't know why I gave him wings, it just fit the aesthetic, I guess.
Korith is the Goddess of the Land and Skies, so her hair is the night sky and her body is the land, what with all the flowers and leaves. She was fun to draw.
Ardos is the God of Art and Beauty so I slathered him in colourful paint. The flag is also dripping paint, kind of like he painted it into existence, idk.
Also, I'm in love with Lou's Enby-lievable shirt. You could say I'm,,,enby-ous.
Character Board: Imrasil, the God of Knowledge and Prophecy
Imrasil didn’t speak to the boy, merely pointed towards a shelf of scrolls as an answer for his question. He couldn’t figure out what would reassure the boy, but his strength had always been in the written word, not speaking. The writings in his library would answer any question the boy might have, as well as the other souls that inhabited his home, bringing laughter and joy to the center of his studies.
Imrasil left the library, far more content to listen to the souls of the seers and scholars from the comfort of his private rooms. As long as he had his writings, and he knew his seers would be taken care of in death, he was happy.
In the meantime, he had a future to sort through.
It’s really simple, but... here’s a little thing for my favorite (shh, it’s a secret!) god! @pixel-letters, I apologize, but there’s going to be a lot of deity stuff coming the next couple days (especially since I’m unexpectedly not babysitting tomorrow) so if you want me to hold off on some tagging, let me know! ((If anyone wants to be tagged in anything, let me know!))
Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! Let's talk divination! What are some ways people have tried to predict the future? Are any of them effective? What's people's general opinion on it? Are any groups violently opposed, and if so, why? Can anyone do it or does it take something special?
Ooh, okay, so this is a thing in the Death’s Eyes universe! So, seeing the future takes a special thing; it’s a gift from Imrasil, who is the God of Knowledge and Prophecy! (This is very exciting, because it’s Imrasil’s spotlight month, so this gives me a chance to talk about stuff related to him!)
For the most part, despite how rare they are, seers are pretty effective in their tactics. They each have their own way of doing things; some look in water, some see it in dreams, others function by touch (who can’t turn it off unfortunately)... but however they do it, they’re successful when they’re actively doing it. However, because the future is constantly changing, what they see is not always reliable and shouldn’t be taken as something definite. (When people get so focused on what a seer said, they turn into self-fulfilling prophecies really, so...)
But, because seers aren’t 100% right -and a lot of times, they say things people don’t want to hear- the general opinion is not great. Yes, these are people blessed by a god, but they would much rather seers not be involved in their lives normally. In the temples is great, or out in the middle of nowhere is a good second. Being one of the rarer gifts from the gods also makes people a little wary, since it isn’t something they can understand quite as well as enhanced strength or artistry.
People do try to predict the future in small things, like weather, especially when their people spend a lot of time on the water. It’s more science, and a little superstition, although some people have had success in predicting when sudden storms will hit and warn the boats not to go out.
My main girl Acheflow is actually one of the seers who would be looked down upon in society (partly why she’s noped off to a mountain in the middle of nowhere); she sees through touch, so she can’t turn it off, and her ability to see how people are going to die puts them on edge. (She’s also more accurate than most seers too!)
STS! What objects, symbols, or creatures are associated with Imrasil?
Happy STS! This is a fun one! I don’t have a lot, but more will come during the month (and of course, if you want more details about any of the stuff here, just let me know!)
Any form of writing is his, pretty much by default no matter where you go. If they worship the deities, books and writing are for Imrasil. Very, very, very old documents regarding him have a similar mark; it looks like circles laced together, with a jagged line through it, so mortals connect that to him, and recreate the symbol in the major libraries and temples.
They’re regarded as myths these days, but there were crystals with Imrasil’s power embedded in them; if they were broken, the person who broke it would be pulled into a memory of the past event connected to it. This is not a good thing though, as there is no way of knowing what the event is, how long it is, and there is no way to wake up/pull out the person witnessing the memory. They’d probably be considered cursed if one appeared in the present day, and the risk would outweigh the benefits. (Although there are many people who would still take the risk regardless, because how else are they going to see, live, and breathe history?)
Seers, of all kinds, are Imrasil’s. Seeing the future isn’t as respected as other god-given gifts, since things can and do change regularly. They see the most likely possibility, but it’s never 100% sure. Acheflow’s sight is actually uncommonly reliably right, despite her childhood efforts, but her particular gift doesn’t sit right with most people, so it doesn’t mean that much.
I am still working on creatures though! Definitely should have something for that before the month ends!
It begins today, so fee free to pop in if there’s anything you want to know about Imrasil, how seers/prophecies work in the Death’s Eyes universe, or anything at all! Or come ask Imrasil questions directly and he’ll answer them!
Connected to Death’s Eyes, but like… ages ago. It’s just a little snippet that would be far, far in the past! But first thoughts with that word, so hope it works!
You could have eternity. Here, surrounded by all the knowledge you could ever ask for. Answers, even for the questions you’ve never thought to ask. All you have to do is take my hand.
An infinite loop of time, to wander the halls of the greatest library known to mankind. Infinity, to find every answer, to study with other minds that thought just like her own. Forever surrounded with knowledge that had been lost, forgotten ages before she was even born.
And all she had to do was leave behind a life she was just beginning to live.
“I’m sorry,” she started, because you were always polite with a god… especially if you were refusing them. “But I think I’ll stay here. Thank you, for the honor, but I have people waiting for me back home.”
@pixel-letters More deity relationships! If anyone would like to be tagged in any deities/OC/snippet things, just let me know!
Read more to keep things small!
The Sun and the Moon, their parents forever fighting and making up to fighting again finally ascended and left the mortal world to the deities we now know... without leaving any sense of structure behind. Who rules when each god or goddess is as powerful as the other?
Imrasil was everyone’s first thought. He was the eldest, their parent’s most trusted adviser... it was only natural that he would lead them where they needed to be.
Except he shook his head, and lead his younger sister, Korith, to their parent’s seat. Never good with words, he retreated at the accusations and demands of his siblings, returning with scrolls for each. None revealed what was inside, for each was personal and true to only them, but whatever Imrasil had written assured them that this was all meant to be.
So it can be assumed that Imrasil had seen the future, and his siblings were sent exactly where they were needed.
Korith, new to her throne, and the strength that accompanied it, fell headfirst into the ruling of the mortals and controlling her siblings. Someone had to tell Eiris she couldn’t just drown whole civilizations that upset her, and that Matelus couldn’t start wars because he was bored. That Ardos could help the mortals create beauty instead of being insulted by the lack of it, and that Yaldir actually had to respond to prayers sometimes, instead of letting his followers lose faith. She didn’t want to intrude too much, because they had a right to rule in their own realms, but there had to be some control and it seemed too few of her siblings actually knew how to use it.
Imrasil had hidden away in his library in this time, perfectly happy with a relationship that consisted of a few letters and the occasional vague prophecy. In a fit of rage on a particularly difficult day, destroying quite a few mortal lands in the process, Korith tore into Imrasil’s domain, storms and lightning in her eyes.
Why would you put this on me? She raged, not caring that her eldest brother’s home was being torn apart by her winds. Why put me on the throne and not help me? You hide here and leave the responsibility to me!
Imrasil’s eyes were filled with sadness as he watched her, standing among torn scrolls strewn on the floor. When the fury passed, and Korith remembered herself, remorse replacing the lightning in her eyes, Imrasil turned away, bending to pick up a few of his precious scrolls, although there were no longer shelves to place them on.
This world was always meant for you. He was quiet as he examined the destroyed parchments in his hands, not looking her way. I saw you on that throne before... before everything.
He placed the scrolls on a broken table, looking back at his younger sister. I had them build this all for you. It was always yours... as this place was always mine. That is what I’ve seen, in every future, with every possibility.
He turned away again, waving a hand to rebuild the shelves, to restore the essence of the scrolls from his memories of the contents. He said nothing more, but he heard when Korith left his home and returned to her throne.
She never complained again of being left with the responsibility, understanding suddenly that everything, everything, Imrasil said and did was for a reason. He was shy, but maybe he kept himself apart from things was because he saw so much, and their presence only made it worse. That his library was safe because it was distant, and full of things that were true.
Korith, never again able to be angry at Imrasil, relented. She learned to control her rages, and to rein her siblings in without being too invested. She created a space by her side for her eldest brother, although he rarely chose to stand there himself. She encouraged her followers to respect Imrasil in the way he would enjoy best: by creating grand libraries and teachings for all the mortal world.
And even in her worst moments, her greatest terrors, she would never willingly harm those dedications to her brother’s worship. And so knowledge and learning spread throughout the mortal civilizations, and she was content.
And in quiet moments, she could find her brother in his rooms, hiding away from the bustle that grew as more souls inhabited his library, and take a moment for herself. To sit at her brother’s side, listening to him read aloud from whatever writings had caught his attention that day, and know that all of this was meant to be. That no matter what happened, they would always find each other.
Korith never let herself forget that without his quiet strength, his wisdom, his knowledge of all things she might never comprehend, none of this would have happened. And she passed on the teaching that she believed to all her followers.
No one can truly rule without the support of someone both wise and kind.
