So here’s something somewhat annoying that came up at work today. Guy that sits behind me was trying to figure out who Jennifer Lawrence is and we were naming off movies when he suddenly said “Oh, from the fappening”.
That required some serious explanation on his part - we assumed he was talking about a spoof on ‘The Happening’, albeit a porny one, but no he was talking about when several female celebrities got their nude pictures stolen off their devices. Which led to the discussion about taking naked pictures.
I am apparently the only person who doesn’t think “welp, guess she shouldn’t have taken those naked pictures of herself”. I’m sorry, this logic is stupid. Because what I decide to do on my own time is not free game for all and I compared their logic to having jewelry - aka, that guess I shouldn’t have jewelry at home either because people might take it.
This was immediately shot down as being stupid because “Yes you can have jewelry, but don’t be stupid about where you wear it”. While these two [men] were patting themselves on the back for showing me up I’m just flabbergasted that they completely missed where I was going with that. I’m especially annoyed that they refused to let me explain where I was going with it. (instead they went with stereotypical victim blaming).
It is exactly like having jewelry at home. Example: I have a pair of diamond earrings, not super impressive ones but I own a pair of diamond earrings. They stay at my apartment in a box of other nicer jewelry that I own that I don’t have occasion to wear. If someone breaks into my apartment and takes them and gives them to other people then I am not to be blamed because I owned a pair of earrings this person wanted. Instead the blame is on the person for breaking into my apartment and taking shit that doesn’t belong to them. In the same manner - if I have pictures of myself on my computer regardless if they are risque or not then the fault is not mine for having the pictures - it’s yours for hacking into my system and taking them.
