I think Marinette’s world views makes for one of her greatest flaws.

She sees the world in black or white, as if you could only ever be Good or bad without a chance of change.

When in reality the black and white parts of life are thin strips on the edges of the grey area. Said grey areas spreads miles long in all directions since it encompasses so much on its own.

Marinette lacks the ability to see the grey area in life and fails to comprehend that anyone and everyone can move throughout it fluidly, moving place as they themselves become a better or worse person.

And I thinks that’s really interesting and can lead to some good moments where she’s forced to evaluate what the world truly is outside of her black & White view.

This makes me think about the 'Pure Hearted' trope that's evolved over the years. OSP made a great video about it recently and how-

A Pure Hearted Character usually does whatever they think is the Right in a scenario but realistically their reprocutions of these 'good' actions can be worse.

Like a Pure Hearted Character deciding to not kill a Villain cause Murder is wrong but the villain ends up killing 300 people after but the Character isn't blamed for this because it's what the Character sees as Intention that makes them pure.

Does that make them a bad person? That's the complicated part and the fun part to analyze.

I'd like to think Marinette is like that

"Helping a girl reconnect with her long lost mother" ? Sounds great in Marinette's POV so she choses that.

But from our perspective of "this girl is a bully who's actions are defined/driven by her wanting to copy her Abusive Mother" then, no, terrible idea, stop that Marinette. But on paper "Helping a girl reconnect with her long lost mother" sounds Good so Good is what Marinette choses.

Does this make her dumb? No. Does this make her decisions based on black and white ideas. Yes.

I hate the idea that things are black and white in a story but I LOVE IT when characters have that ideal because it gives them lots of opportunity to change
