Explaining why I like Kain Highwind, my dragoon dad: The conflict between his cool demeanor and the inner turmoil he faces is fantastic, especially when you consider how he had the opportunity to interfere in Rosa and Cecil's relationship given how Cecil thought they couldn't be together, but Kain doesn't, and in fact has to be brainwashed to act upon those feelings. In addition, his pride in his job as a Dragoon is fantastic, not only because Dragoons are OBVIOUSLY the coolest but also due to how Dragoons are falling out of relevancy due to industrial advancements with airships, but he still takes pride in his role as commander. He's a man who is loyal to his principles in this way, even going as far as to turn against the king because he puts the honor of the dragoons above all else. Despite his lofty air, he cares about his companions and despite his pride, can never bring himself to blame others, always striving for self-improvement. Even after his actions when he was brainwashed, he's still a grand, fantastic commander that I would want to follow in battle!
