I know what you’re thinking and you’re right. Today was one SUPER day… get it? First SUPERHOP and now Superfuzz, I guess I might as well finish my day watching Super Size Me followed by Superbad while wearing my Superman pajamas. I hate myself sometimes. Anyways, Elysian showed me some love and sent out some brews to review and according to them this beer is for “The Beginner” drinker which I couldn’t agree with more. Being a musician, the first thing I thought about when I saw the name of this beer was the holy grail of guitar pedals, the Univox Super-Fuzz, but then I decided to Google it just to see what else came up and thank dog (not a type-o) I did. Do yourself a favor and go watch the trailer for the 1980’s hit (and by hit I mean train-wreck) Super Fuzz in which a cop gets super powers and can move stuff with his mind and dive through walls and even survive the electric chair. It’s all there in the trailer folks. Anyways, this is a damn delicious beer and I’m still trying to figure out how the hell I’ve never tasted this before but either way I’m glad I have now. A crisp clean hop bite starts things off with those aromatic and potpourri-like blood orange flavors mixing in quickly after only enhancing those floral hop notes with a minor bitterness before ending with a nice mix of those two flavors with a slight malt sweetness to wrap things up. This is blood orange done right and the fact that it isn’t overwhelming in the flavor like other beers using the ingredient only makes this that much more SUPER. Fuck, I did it again didn’t I? Oh well. For all you losers out there who are going to complain about InBev owning these guys, put a sock in it because this beer is a solid entry to the style and is even a little hazy which probably got a few craft snobs dick’s hard just seeing that word. Regardless of whether you are a beginner or an expert I’d definitely give this a chance if it’s available because it delivers on flavor yet is light enough that you could crush a 22oz-er like it was nothing. Now get out there, wail on your guitars, and dive headfirst through a wall because… Superfuzz!
