Howdy. I know you're surely over the drama by now, but I thought the incinerator operator piece was amazing. Really ruthlessly crystallizes how easy it is to fragment responsibility for atrocity into neatly digestible little morsels that everyone gets a piece of, and nobody has to choke on. The - very obvious - historical context and reference is what charges it.
Thank you. I'm really glad that some people got something out of it! I'm trying to feel proud of what was good about it, while still taking steps to ensure I'm not as clumsy or accidentally antisemitic with my art in the future as I was with that piece.
It was my first real foray into a video with any sort of serious subject matter, so if nothing else, I'm honestly really glad that I'm getting as much feedback as I have been! A lot of it is hard to hear, but a lot of people have also been really kind, both in their criticism and their praise, and I've already learned a ton about what not to do for my next attempt at something in that vein.
Overall, the "drama" has been a productive learning experience for me, and I've even made a few new friends through it, in a community I have otherwise not spent a lot of time with (I grew up in rural Utah, lmfao. Unfortunately, if I have ever met a Jewish person IRL, it was not in a situation that they felt the need to disclose it to me, so my viewpoint until all of this was extraordinarily limited.)
We listen, we improve, and we soldier onwards and upwards to better and more inclusive and thoughtful writing!
