31. What’s your ideal fic length to write?
Between 2k and 4k. I feel like Miss Rhode Island describing her perfect date -- not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.
32. What’s your ideal fic length to read?
Normally I'd bullshit with a non-answer (how long does the story need to be? how long should a man's legs be? etc.) but I really do enjoy stories that land longer than a brief one-shot but not so long that they need to be broken out into chapters. 5k-15k maybe. In the spirit of pure candor some of the stories I've loved the most and that have left the strongest mark on me were floating around that 1k Yuletide Treasure-length mark or shorter.
40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?
My own fics, or other people's? Wrt other people's fics, if it hit me the right way I'll reread happily until the cows come home; wrt my own fic, I tend to forget about it after it's posted and then reread it 5 years later when I get a kudos email and go "what the fuck was 'beer & skittles'????"
43. If you take/write prompts: what’s your favorite prompt fic that you’ve written?
I fucking love writing for prompts and there are many many stories I love and am proud of that came to be that way but I think I owe a special debt of gratitude that another person looked at tightly-wound, viciously lawful, pathologically normie, certified rat fuck, traumatized-doberman-in-a-person-suit Edmund J. Exley and was like "this man needs an AU where he does sex work". Scioscribe, you will always be famous.
I love this fic so fucking much, you guys, and I'm really glad I got to write it.
46. Do you prefer writing on your phone or on a computer (or something else)? Do you think where you write affects the way you write?
I only started writing fic on my phone relatively recently, though I used to chop up fics I wanted to read into 100-word segments and read them on my iPod Classic back in the fucking day. It's great for getting ideas out before the spirit leaves me but it's not suitable for anything more sustained and I find it really hard to edit any way other than on a computer. I've considered writing longhand as a way to #lifehack my way through writer's block but unfortunately my handwriting is certified dogshit.
