There is no answer to offer at first, Julia too busy dissecting the statement in her head. All she can give Kane is a glance, curiosity barely kept off of her face.

It was not so strange to her, that there still be a way to lose whatever childlike purity remained. She herself had escaped her childhood with hardly any innocence left intact, but still had enough to clinging to her that her career could wring it out. 

That had been years ago, though. She would have assumed Kane’s career would have had the same effect, but then Kane also must have had a kinder upbringing.

Best not to bring it up.

“It sure is.”

Her tone leaves her wincing at her own lack of sincerity.
