Ranakpur Jain Temple, Rajasthan. The renowned temple at Ranakpur, quite possibly the most spectacular of all Jain temples, is dedicated to Tirthankara Adinatha. Local legend has it that Dharma Shah, a local Jain business person, started construction of the temple in the 15th century following a divine vision. The temple honors Adinath, the first Tirthankar of the present half-cycle (avasarpiṇī) according to Jain cosmology. It is a nearly 1700 year old temple located in Pillayarpatti, Tamilnadu. Though the presiding deity is Shiva, it is more famous as Ganpati/Vinayaka temple. Do you know that is is the only statue of Lord Vinayaka in India where he appears with two hands instead of four. The 6 feet tall Vinakga/Ganesh sculpture is believed to be commissioned around 400AD and here, he sits in ardhpadmansana pose with legs folded and stomach not touching the asanam. This temple is one of the rare temple of Vinayaka where there is Chariot festival.
