Meet Amy Proebstel
Q. Shortly introduce yourself. Name, genre(s) you write and anything you’d like to share about yourself. A. My name’s Amy Proebstel and I write sci-fantasy fiction. I’m a wife, mother, pilot, author, and avid reader. I love learning and inspiring others to look for more in their lives.
Q. What’s the first book that had an impact in your life and why? A. The Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey because it was the first fantasy series which transported me to a different world where the characters came to life.
Q. When did you start writing? A. I began writing in 2009.
Q. What’s the first book you published? Was it self-published? A. My first book, entitled Outside Ascension, was self-published.
Q. Where do you publish your books? Can you explain your readers the importance of their reviews and their impact on your work as an author? A. My books are published through Amazon, but can also be purchased through my website or any of the other big outlets such as Barnes & Noble. I never understood the value of reviews until I became published myself, then I realized this was the most important avenue for readers to communicate their appreciation for the works they read. When Amazon reviews are received, this lets Amazon know that a book is worthy of taking note and they begin to help the author to promote the books, which then brings the stories to a new audience.
Q. Where do you get inspiration? A. Initially, I received my inspiration from several dreams which I wrote down once I woke up. These first dreams have morphed into a whole other world of people, places, events, and magic which have been amazing to explore.
Q. Do you like hearing from readers? If so, can you let them know how to contact you? A. I love hearing from all of my readers because each person experiences different things from what they read. I love hearing how the story impacts them and which characters with which they relate. Readers can email me at [email protected].
Q. What piece of advice would you share with aspiring authors? A. There’s no hurry to publish, so take your time to get the story well-edited. There is nothing which turns a reader off faster than a grammatically incorrect story.
Q. Do you read self-published authors? Which ones are your favorite? A. I read 5-10 indie authors each month, some of my favorites have been: Lucretia Stanhope, J.L. Stowers, Watson Davis, A.L. Wright, and Nikki Landis.
