“Yo, Indigo! Where ya headed?” Came the call from the movie star as he ran to catch up with his favorite hot headed aquamancer. Indigo turned and smirked once she saw the actor catching up, fighting the urge to do something mischievous.
“The next match is up. Liu Kang’s gonna fight, I wanna be there.” She said, as Johnny walked beside her towards the stage.
“Why? Cus you wanna watch your boyfriend get his ass whooped?” Johnny jested, standing beside her as Shang Tsung’s guards whooped and shouted around the stage.
These guys sure love Mortal Kombat, Johnny thought, bemused. Way more than any of the Earthrealmers.
Johnny stood close to Indigo, should any of the guards cause any trouble. He leaned shoulder to shoulder with her, and despite not moving away, the former racer didn’t bother moving to take back her personal space.
“Hush you, I’m only going to see how the match goes. Whether Liu Kang wins or loses…is up to himself and his opponent.” Her voice faultered when she stated Liu could lose, and Johnny felt sympathy.
He knew the water bender had some feelings for Liu, and he knew it had to be rough seeing the man fight for his life on stage. He sure knew it was rough when Sonya did it.
“Hey,” he gently reached out and grasped her hand, making her jolt slightly as she immediately looked at his hands enveloping hers, “ it’s going to be okay.”
Indigo relaxed, realizing his touch was innocent and she let her gaze fall back on to the stage without a word of sarcasm.
She must be really worried…I can’t blame her, Johnny thought as he watched Liu step on stage.
The fight was long. Longer than any of the others, Liu really met his match with this champion of Shang Tsung’s, suffering multiple injuries in the process. Luckily, the Chosen One rang victorious in the end, sparing his opponent and offering mercy.
“I’m glad Liu let the guy live…I can only imagine what Shang Tsung would’ve done if he were here.” Johnny contemplated, walking with Indigo out of the stage arena. The woman had been silent the entire match, only sparing a few curses here and there when hard hits were had. But now…her silence almost scared Johnny.
Figuring she was still worried about Liu, he gently led her to a secluded area of Shang Tsung’s island.
“Johnny Cage, where the hell are you taking me?”
“Your minds too high in the clouds, kid. So we’re gonna relax and wait up for Liu so that you can see he’s alright.” He responded, as they arrived where he sought.
It was a piece of the beach overlooking the sea, completely cut off from the rest of the island on both sides with only the exit they came out of being the way out. The sun was setting as Johnny dragged Indigo to sit under a tree, and he tugged her down to join him.
“Liu’s going to be fine, Baby Blue. You don’t have to worry about him,” he said, gently rubbing the back of her palm. “I know you’ll still worry because he’s your crush, but you gotta trust that he knows what’s he’s doing.”
Johnny felt a blazing stare on his face, and immediately he knew what was on the woman’s mind.
“Yes, I know. I’m not THAT dumb, Blue. Now relax, no ones here to hold it against you. It’s just you…and me.” He said, yawning with his final words. The island was beautiful at sunset, and as the sky darkened and the air cooled, nothing felt wrong. And Johnny drifted into sleep next to his close friend.

It was not that much later when Indigo’s eyes glanced at her friend who still slept next to her. His hold on her hand tight. She glanced over the moon, and how it shimmered over the water, and as she watched the ocean waves crash against the shore, her body was surrounded by green mist. One moment there sat the newest Kombatant, and in the next was the man this island belonged to…Shang Tsung.
The sorcerer looked down on the actor still holding his hand tight, squeezing his hand in his sleep every so often. And for a moment, Shang Tsung allowed his hands to squeeze back, fingers linking together tightly.
The brunette finally stood, releasing the actor’s hand and made his way back to his fortress.
Today he learned some very valuable information, and he smiled to himself, proud of his ruse…sending Indigo to fight a battle at the same time Liu Kang would fight his on the other side of the island.
Johnny Cage had given him information he could exploit. Maybe he wasn’t as useless as he first believed?
