in the edited hlvrai videos, the chat and stream notifications are present... until gordon gets his hand cut off. from that point forward, there is no chat or stream notifications. considering ur fic and how when gordon got his hand cut off THAT was the point where he forgot it was a game and in the streams thats when all the streaming shit vanishes... idk, i just think its a cool detail :P

Okay so I know the actual diegetic reason for this but this works so incredibly well it's amazing. The Narrative Layers. The visual storytelling. Since Gordon isn't an AI it took him longer than he would like to admit to figure out how to change his character model's attire when he hung out with the Science Team in postgame. Like imagine you've invited your friends over for games and drinks, everyone shows up dressed casual and comfy except for the one guy in full power armor.

The final straw that made him learn how to swap outfits is when Benrey showed up to movie night in an identical HEV suit and accused Gordon of stealing his style.

Gordon believes that he "can't really eat or drink" things in VR, but he consumed the potion in the main game and it had an affect on his virtual body/character model. You give that information to a team of scientists and you end up with a billion hypotheses and a furious debate on whether his avatar can get drunk.
