wip i'm rewatching no.6 and discovering the wonders of the lasso tool
there's not ONE feminist cell in my body when these three are in the picture
It's MY comfort Polycule and I'LL project all my issues onto them if I WANT to.
Sit down I'm going to inform you of my strong belief that the hatred for Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin individually and together is born from—you guessed it—✨️misogyny✨️ and ✨️toxic masculinity✨️
Yuta Okkotsu being the fact that many cannot comprehend the idea of a man being powerful, confident, and an absolute unit overall while also being gentle and kind and knowing when to be what. Having empathy and high emotional intelligence that doesn't take from his strength but makes him STRONGER.
Yuta Okkotsu, who's powers are born from the women in his life, and who maintains that with the way he behaves.
That when paired with Maki they make him "feminine" and "male wife" when that is NOT what he is nor what their relationship likely is.
Just because he isn't loud and aggressive doesnt make him less of a man. So many times I see people pushing ideas that are SO giving into toxic masculinity and sexism and it irks me quite a bit.
Maki Zen'in being the fact that not only can't people fathom a powerful woman PERIOD, but that they also can't comprehend said strong woman being fully implied to be straight and not masculine because she's gay, but because she wants to be.
Now I want to be clear that there is nothing wrong with headcanoning her as a lesbian or shipping her with other girls in the show. I don't think that shipping and general fandom behavior is harmful inherently, even when a canon exists. You do you, I think that pretty much any legal ship can and IS cute and fun even if it seems "unrealistic". It is the way that I've seen people treat her and react to the canon not fitting their idea of her that I think is somewhat mysogynystic and potentially homophobic in ways because it implies that the stereotype of women being masc presenting or otherwise not fitting rigid feminine gender norms MUST be gay.
Thats even if we want to talk about her having short hair and wearing pants even IS masculine or... Just clothes? Or a style? Like, the way Maki grew and looked later on was a design choice to reflect her growth I believe, I don't think it makes her changed in such a way as her whole identity and orientation? I don't know, maybe I'm crazy but I really think that people pushing this onto others and the canon are pushing some odd rhetoric without realizing.
That when paired with Yuta they make her "masculine" and overall depict and describe her behavior to be "man-like" when that ISN'T what she is. She is a woman, a powerful woman who speaks her mind, and she doesn't give off "man" vibes because of it? Just because she doesn't align with the conformity that many women go through doesn't mean she's less of a woman? That's her story arc? One of the reasons her mysogynystic clan hated and outcasted her?
Nothing I say here is new but... Just wanted to frame this the right way.
Hi yeah these two images have emotionally destroyed me!!
Ren reaching out for Nora, trying to be there for her - but then he doubts himself, remembering that she wants space. So he lets Oscar take the lead.
