That was so good! 

It’s definitely made me want to read Circe even more and Madeline Miller is the best. She’s a big Ancient Greek geek (excuse the phrasing) which made me appreciate her even more as she clearly loves the subject she writes about.  Also she was super grateful for all the The Song of Achilles love!

Definitely glad I went and I recommend if she’s near you, 100% go see her x

For a while I was unsure, but now I am absolutely certain about one thing: When the French tell you something about the way you speak their language, 100% of the time they are just making things up or responding in a way that they think will get an interesting response out of you. I say this because there is no way my French is at all the varying levels that they tell me it is. For example, the description of my language skills that I find to be the most accurate is that I still have a present Anglophone accent. This is something I have heard from some locals when I ask how I sound. However, there are others who will tell me that I speak with a wonderful accent. I met a French girl not too long ago who told me that I had mastered the "r", and that "if you can do that you have the French language in the palm of your hand. You speak like it's your mother tongue!" This was without a doubt one of the most incredible compliments I have ever received. Finally though, there are those who tell me I sound like I'm straight out Québec, and who mock my "ouais" sounding "oui" and tell me that they love to hear me speak only because of how fun they think it is to hear the strange and foreign Québecois accent. So maybe If I was described in one of these ways - or even two - I would believe it. But there is just no way I speak with an accent resembling all three of these categories. It simply doesn't seem possible??? No one has told me I sound Acadian… So I suppose that's a plus. Nevertheless, going to keep working on achieving that Lyonnais sound - or at least improving my vocabulary, which seems to be my biggest communication impediment. . Two months of practice left!
