about me

confession: i don't know what i'm meant to put in this, so here's a bit of info about me that you don't need to know but i find silly enough to share.

my pronouns are he/him

i am an adult, and undergraduate at a BIG10 school studying mathematics

i write poetry to vent, commentate and illustrate

i have been writing poetry since i was fourteen

afyer comes from a character i made in @xarrixii's "flash/burn"

you are always open to send me questions, or writing prompts

and if you want to be mutuals i would love to!

i am interested in:

short and long fiction of almost all genres

drama/plays and music

i honestly don't intend to keep this blog artistic, mysterious, sad, anything like that. i want to be my actual self, which means a lot of posting about random things, silly things; basically, don't expect every post of mine to be some meaningful work of literature.

last thing to note: i am not opposed to writing about dark, triggering, controversial and serious topics. some of the topics i have written about include but are not limited to: trauma, assault, breakups, overstimulation, drug abuse, suicide, family issues, etc. i try to tag these posts to the best of my ability; please, be careful. if i forget a tag, i urge you to let me know as soon as possible.

such posts listed above should not be seen as a cry for help. the most they will ever be is a reflection of current or past feelings, but never will they be threats of things i'll do to myself (or in some cases, others), nor will they be guilt trips, or anything like that. these devices and topics may be used to expand metaphors and narratives, or commentate on an idea.

My Cat Died

What a privilege it is

to be able to hold my breath

so I don’t breathe in that raw chicken she eats.

You can almost hear me weeping

amidst these hard-working nurses saving mammal lives

but the loud roars of the oxygenator

are a blanket to my sadness

and a last testament to my guilt.

What a privilege it is

to be miles, miles away

as her heart hurts; her lungs hurt; our hearts hurt,

and yet, what a privilege it is

to be able to see her

one last time, despite what I said.

I try my best to appease my morals,

yet the only one who understands too—he’s miles, miles away;

What a privilege it is

to sit here, one last time

and remember how I loved her.

Every moment since her youthful adoption,

to the elderly arbitration we see today,

she’s been there, the heart of the household

the little cat that makes us all grin

much to his chagrin,

but when you’re gone, little kitty,

who’ll be there?

Like I’m so sorry but expect my lover girl side to be the only side you see for months

One of my favorite compliments I’ve ever received was on the first night of college; a friend I only knew through texting finally met myself and some others, and during our hangout she asked “damn, what CAN’T you do?”

While there’s many answers to that question, like cooking, holding a job or especially modular arithmetic, it took that for me to realize that the talents I’ve acquired are more than just fleeting interests.

An eclipse is no heliocentric feat;

I’m a radiant sun in lonely night skies,

Lighting my life by the sleight of my hand.

My moon then rises, and we create something beautiful;

My corona, still myself, lets out a little breath;

Yet I can bask freely in your lunar embrace, sweet interstellar partner;

For as we’re still our own worlds, we’re dazzling together

And I can’t help but pray this love we have lasts forever.

I revel in this chaotic feeling of regret

The sweat pooling beneath my feet

Overtaking my world and killing me slowly

The overwhelming urge to hurt takes my mind

Every road fades to gray

This hellish world will never be the same

Because I took that wrong right turn

Depriving me of my confidence
