As the imps roved around the town causing minor chaos wherever they could and the lesser demons wrecked what was left of the wizards' collage the elder chaos demon struggled to maintain controll of the hellspawn horde. This new order of dark wizards had summoned a truly massive demonic invasion, unlike any in recorded history. No less than 5 elder demons and every imp and lesser demon they could control. One HAD lost control and the dark wizards had needed to regain the control of all the free hellspawn with their own mind control spells. Many of them would be burned out after this, a direct linking with the mind of a demon was dangerous. The infernal mind was not compatible with that of mortals.
It didn't matter though. The ritual was almost over and the tasks had been completed. As this thought occurred to the head of the dark order the ritual ran out and under each of the summoned hellspawn a glowing infernal circle appeared and the the hellspawn that it was around burst into angry red flames and sank down into the circle as it was returned to the infernal plane. The elder chaos demon being the most powerful one summoned was the last to be returned.
As the she sank down into the circle she looked around at the destruction. She saw the bodies of imps and lesser demons next to the bodies of the humans of the town that had slain them. The body of the elder demon who had lost control was an husk of ash and cinder. As she continued to sink she felt no anger towards the townspeople for the deaths of so many of her kind. They were simply defending themselves and their families. The circle was up to her neck when she saw a wizard in black robes enter the town.
YOU! She thought as the man approached the body of an elderly blue wizard. YOU DID THIS! YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE! She reached back out through the circle to pull herself into the mortal realm but the magic that had brought the demon here was absolute, and now it was sending her away. She screamed in rage and frustration as she slipped the rest of the way into the circle.
Crying she found she was standing on the platform once again and the medics were rushing to the demons that were injured, doing what they could to heal the injured and taking those who needed more attention away from the arrivals platform.
A lesser demon from the medical corp approached her and went over the routine return evaluation. As she was checked for injuries she heard the blaring siren used to announce the arrivals and departures of invasions followed by the voice of her mate Frank who worked in summoning central control announcing "Summon 264 arriving from the mortal plane has arrived at platform 21 north."
The examination finished up and she walked off the platform glancing at the time, noting happily that her shift was almost over. She walked through the gates into the invasion preparation room and changed into her regular clothes. Having changed she said on the chairs for a while thinking about the most recent invasion. She wasn't upset at the townspeople she never was, but those who had summoned the demons infuriated her. They summoned demons to risk their lives killing people who all too often were innocent of wrongdoing.
She said pondering about her job until the end of her shift when she walked out into the street outside the summoning facility. Where she met up up with Frank.
"How bad was it this time?" Frank asked as she walked up.
"Raj lost control of his batch and was burned out. I don't know why they felt they needed to summon so many. It's not like there was anything truly dangerous there. Just a minor wizards' college." She fumed as Frank wrapped his arms around her to give her a hug.
As they walked home she said "I hope little Grace has more sense than her mom. I don't know what I was thinking joining the interplanar summoning force."
With that thought she pushed all thoughts of work from her mind and began thinking of what fun adventures she and Frank could take their little daughter Grace on during their vacation next week.
