We meet Kyle. HE ONLY HAS ONE NAME!!!! Never mind. Jordan.
I have a new theory about George. Don’t tell me if everyone on the internets thought of it already, Just don’t. Contains many spoilers for S8E18 The Artful Detective and the Infernal Device interactive web thing
***
Here is my hypothesis:
1. The Archie Brooks who comes back from war after years of being MIA is a changed man -- and not in a good way. You know who else came back from the war after years of being MIA? Nicholas Brody. You know who else? The Manchurian Candidate.
2. Someone is apparently watching George. Who could it be? Who likes to spy on people? SPIES like to spy on people.
3. After his heart is broken and after Edna gets beaten by Archie, George absolutely refuses to talk to any of his friends or colleagues about what is troubling him. That is not like George. George is not afraid to ask for advice from those he respects.
4. Moving on: The Infernal Device seems to take place after Archie Brooks returns BUT before George takes the fall for his murder. That’s dramatically awkward time skipping, not typical of TMM, so why do that? Sure, maybe there was some metatextual reason it had to be George (or Jonny) as the narrator of The Infernal Device but I believe it makes more sense that there is a reason intrinsic to the story for it to occur in the series penultimate time frame rather than the more natural frame of after the last episode of the season.
5. The presence of Terence Myers. Terrence Myers shows up in the Infernal Device with all kinds of secret assignments relating to Princess Louise’s visit. Sure he’s there to add intrigue to the interactive web thing, but what if that’s not the only reason. What if he was already in town, preparing for the Princess’ visit and following say, one potentially brainwashed soldier.
6 Metatextually, if George is going to continue to be a member of the police constabulary he will not only have to be proved innocent of murder but also of being accessory to murder.
Therefore, I propose that the reason George keeps silent is not to protect Edna or Simon but is actually because he’s on assignment for or under the orders of Terrance Myers not to disclose the real circumstances of Archie Brooks death in order to prevent panic around the Princess’ visit. What the exact circumstances are and how George is involved I don’t know, but this is the only scenario I can think of where George can eventually be cleared of both murder *and* accessory after the fact.
So, yeah. That.
Any of my followers go to the Infernal Device today in Toronto?? Also, I might be going to the Vancouver one next week (I have to personally pay the ferry fee of $100 if I do!) but I will let everyone know if I do. I literally have never been to a Murdoch event/met any other fans!
