People have so much hate for TMI because of the incest plot completely forgetting that, that's the whole point.

Jace and Clary were just two teenagers that were manipulated by a grown ass man to make them think that they were horrible people so that they would help him. Valentine experimented on them and psychologically tortured them its a terrible situation for anyone to be in they were being abused and people need to realize that.

It's not as if they found out the were siblings and just decided they didn't care. No they did care and they broke up Clary even tried to move on by dating Simon but she just couldn't suppress her feelings for Jace which made her feel like she was disgusting and by proxy us the reader, which was exactly what Valentine wanted Clary to feel like.

And then you see Jace who believes he is part demon and he feels like a monster for loving Clary and he feels like he is destroying her. He thinks he's irredeemable which is EXACTLY WHAT VALENTINE WANTED. He wanted a son who would do horrible things because he thought it didn't matter cause he was damned if he did damned if he didn't anyway right.

I'm rereading the infernal devices for the first time in my adult life post-abusive relationship and post-acceptance of chronic illness and it is crazy what specific things I am noticing now that I've never noticed before.

Charlotte (a 23 year old woman) is running the Insitute in a time when women weren't even deemed societal appropriate if they wore PANTS

Tessa is intended by her brother to be the sacrificial lamb for his sins, and she recognizes the root of that before he even acknowledges it when she says that he was always babied and spoiled etc and has not seen consequences or issue with his actions prior to [present book time]

Jem is disabled. Jem is chronically ill and fucking disabled. He is also depicted as attractive as hell, charming beyond belief, and an incredible warrior. At no point does anyone discredit him because of his illness, and Cassie even takes the time to say that "if anyone thought it odd to see a boy of such a young age using a walking stick, they said no such thing." Outside of that, Jem's illness is depicted realistically, but it is never used as pandering or inspiration p0rn. It is so fucking pleasant that a main character is allowed to exist disabled, it can contribute to the plot, but nobody in the story is fucking weird about it. Also, his best friend opting to partner with him for life as fighting partners and blood brothers? Not letting Jem's condition change anything about how [Will] perceives him as both a fighter and a brother? Immaculate.

Period accurate societal expectations being addressed: Sophie losing her job because of her face being cut (pretty privilege, parlor maid pre-req being that you must be attractive to look at); Jessamine fighting so avidly against her training because it is unladylike and she fears it will prevent her from leading the life of a "normal woman" of the time.

As much as I am excited for TLKOF, I am absolutely terrified for Jace and Clary. Considering the fact that Janus is in the shadow world and seeking to kill jace and replace him. Also, CLARY AND HER VISIONS OF DYING IN LORD OF SHADOWS??!! we never got more insight on that. Something is happening and that scares me. What are some of your theories??? I'm so curious, it is driving me INSANEEE.

Edit: It had slipped my mind about thule and Clary finding out her visions being a result of that. It has been a while since I read it so yes. Thanks yall for opening the doors to my memory ☠️❤️

casting a hex on my worst enemy: ooo your favorite book series as a teenager will be turned into a popular tv show. and it will be absolutely terrible and completely disrespectful to the source material, but will greatly exceed the books in popularity. so whenever you look for content online about said books series, you will forever be reminded of the mediocrity of said tv show. you will be forced block the tag for it on ao3.

What absolutely gets me about the Clave is that they are fully immune to making progress as a society. They signed the Accords with the Downworlders that basically amount to "we'll stop hunting you for sport, pinky promise." Yes good, excellent progress in not violently murdering human beings and taking trophies from their bodies.

Then the Circle is founded, which by the end of it is all about violently murdering Downworlders. Very few people seem to actually care until the Circle turns against other Shadowhunters in a way they *cannot* brush under the rug.

The punishments for this are for the most part laughable. And they are punished for the Uprising, which put Shadowhunters in danger, not just the Downworlders.

Not twenty years later, Valentine comes back and seems to have zero (0) difficulty finding Shadowhunters who'll follow him. The Clave flummoxed to put together a resistance to defend Idris. They had to join forces with Downworlders so it's gotta be like a fucking half of the Shadowhunters population that joined him.

They defeat him and immediately shit goes sideways with Sebastian.

Once they defeat Sebastian, it's like 5 years before the Cohort forms. Wanting to take away Downworlders' rights, register werewolves, etc. etc. etc.

Do you get what I'm saying? I'm saying there's a pattern of the Clave doing fuck-all to improve. I'm saying they need to put some effort in.

I'm saying they need to stop electing former hate group members into positions of power. Just because it worked out with Robert doesn't make it a good pattern.
