Infinity War (2018)
I KNOW I’VE BEEN ASKING FOR IT BUT I DIDN’T ACTUALLY WANT TO SEE STEVE CRY, MARVEL.
Just a thought so don't come for me
What if the dead aren't brought back in infinity war pt 2?
The remaining avengers kill thanos and the title just rolls up saying: Avenged
Loki, re-emerging from the dead yet again:
Also, I-told-you-so
yall think tony’s gonna suffer when he dies but he suffers even more when everyone dies but him and if marvel does tHAT to him i’m the one suffering the most
"we don’t know the name of the next Avengers movie, what should it be called?” X
guys I’m fucking terrified
this song is the song of bravery and only cowards wont accept that
The Iron Man Mantle
So with possibly only (sure to be amazing) prequels to satisfy fans until Avengers 4 I've been doing some thinking about Iron Man and what Downey's longtime involvement with the franchise means for the MCU mantle
In an effort to start conversation, in my opinion there are a few different options if we're really looking at the end of the original Iron Man as we know him coming to an end with Avengers 4
1. Tony Stark lives through "Infinity War P. 2" and gets his happy ending with Pepper, and continues on in the background of the MCU without really retiring the mantle of Iron Man.
I don't really see this happening, or at least not both aspects of the scenario. Without going into the several death flags surrounding Tony in Infinity War, I don't see how Stark is going to continue the title. This coming finale to what has been one tremendous arc would be the perfect time to change up the character that started it all, permanently. I'm sure the Russo Brothers and the writers know that people are expecting this finale to come with lasting consequences. This movie desperately needs weight, even if we all want the happy ending. Not to mention the fact that Downey deserves his break. Even if the character lives I don't see more than one other major film for the character coming out. Avengers 4 would be an expected and acceptable goodbye for Iron Man, dead or alive.
2. Iron Man lives and retires the mantle, perhaps officially handing it down to another hero.
This is one I see as more plausible. Tony really got into almost a "God Mode" with this newest movie, being such a seasoned superhero with his incredible tech. There is no "Homecoming", with a struggle to sort out new abilities. This would plausibly lead to an overpowered Iron Man going into future movies, if he maintains all of his research/resources. A refreshing of the mantle would feasibly set the skill set back some way, and in general change up the character.
3. Tony Stark does not live through "Infinity War P. 2", and someone else takes up the mantle after his passing.
This is by far the most heartbreaking of the options I have considered, but I also see it happening. Truthfully not as much as the second, because that would most likely anger audiences the least, but if I'm right about flags then in Tony's absence I don't see how no one would step up to take care of all his tech. Perhaps not at first, in a mourning phase. But eventually it would be logical to... use it remotely to aid in the excursions of other superheroes? Or maybe later down the road it would be utilized by an older and more independent MCU Spiderman. (He is quite the genius in his own right in many comic iterations.)
Or, in my opinion the most exciting option of all, a solo superhero taking responsibility for his inventions.
Maybe War Machine would lead a legion of suits?
Maybe Shuri could become an MCU take on Riri Williams? With how awkward her recent reintroduction to the comics has been, it would be appreciated. Also, with the new Black Panther most likely continuing his story, she deserves her own badass superhero mantle.
Or maybe the kid from Iron Man 3 makes a return? At this point all the doors are open.
At the end of the day I'm just super excited to see where this universe (and all the other realities) go in the upcoming Marvel movies. Sorry for triggering any of you, feel free to come yell at me in my inbox/messages.
