Mr. Kang started to summarize him. “We eliminated him because we found him a bit, how do I put into words – teenager? He is too young, yet too strong, we just didn’t know about his experience level. And, we must inform you that if you want to go with him, we’re okay with that too.”
You hold his file and dropped every other one out and turned the page two. There was a photo of him, brown hair and brown eyes. A-child-like face.
“Yes,” you concluded. “Yes – I am sure. Can I meet him today?”
Mr. Kang doubted. “Can we – “
“I am sure that Mr. Jeon would feel – a great amount of enthusiasm when we call him to inform that he got the job after all.” Mr. Lee interrupted with an acted smile in the end. “Wouldn’t he, Mr. Kang?”
“Yes,” Mr. Kang praised. “I am sure that we can meet him today, Ms. Park.”
“Great then,” you comforted with a big smile on your face. “I want to read every single one of the word on his file before meeting him. So…if you’ll excuse me, gentlemen,” you got up from your seat, holding the file about a stranger who you’ll trust on your life from now on. “I’ll be in my father’s room.”
\
Funny how your father’s room didn’t change at all in a couple of days, but how everything about you and your life has changed since he’s gone. He didn’t know that it was his last time sitting on the brown chair when he was sitting on it, before living to go to his penthouse, anything but death on his mind that day.
An effortless tear suddenly appeared on your face, to inform you about the rest, about the future, about the bad things that are coming…
You just didn’t care at all – and started crying your heart out.
You just didn’t care at all – about all the people that can hear you from outside of the room.
You just didn’t care at all – about any of the death threats or company’s shares that everyone is talking about.
You just didn’t care at all – the Min’s or the personal guardian that Mr. Kang and Mr. Lee was talking about.
“Shit,” you winked the tears away from your face, blowing your nose. “Oh, shit,” you tried to stop the tears, a helpless crack of laugh found its way. “Father, you’d be surprised that I just resign my own life to a twenty-two-year-old-boy that is probably having family issues,” you continued crying. “Shit, I really did that.”
You looked at the file on the desk.
“Who are you Sixth Candidate? Why do I have an odd feeling about you – something I can’t quite understand myself too? Something about you that is telling me that, either this is the best decision I’ve ever made or the worst.”
– Or both, actually, but you just didn’t know that at that time at all.
Either way, the only thing you could do was to open the damn file and start reading.

Oh, you must’ve been kidding me.
\
“Mr. Lee!”
You shouted from the other side of the corridor that is facing your father’s, now yours, office.
“Mr. Lee! Wait for a second!”
He heard you and stopped right there, immediately facing the way you’re pathetically running from.
“Why didn’t you – “
“– Why didn’t I tell you Mr. Jeon has been worked for Min’s? Is that the case, Ms. Park?”
“Yes,” you answered, a little out of breathing.
Mr. Lee smirked like he knew all the answers someone can have. “I always thought that you were clever like your father, Y/N.” He said your name again after a little wink from his left eye. “I am sure Mr. Jeon had his own reasons for quitting his job at the Min’s and doing nothing for three years until applying for to be your personal bodyguard, right?”
“The candidate that has been worked f-for the army, Baek – something,” you stopped, trying to remember the name. “I forgot his name.”
“Baek Ha Joon.”
“Baek Ha Joon – right,” you continue. “He was never your favorite one, right? It was Jungkook,” you stated with a devilish smile. “You tricked me, right? You wanted me to choose him?”
“Tricked isn’t the word I’d choose, Ms. Park,” he explained. “Let’s just say…manipulated,” he smiled for a mere second before speaking again. “And yes, Mr. Jeon was, and still, is my favorite candidate.”
“H-how?” You asked, frowningly. “How did you know that I’d go with the sixth one?”
“You think like your father, Ms. Park,” he specified. “I hear him in the words you speak, I hear him in the steps you take,” he stops for a second and closes his eyes. “And most importantly, I see him in your eyes, Ms. Park.”
“Fuck!” You laughed. “I thought I was tricking you with choosing someone off the list, Uncle Jin.”
He stops as he hears his name from you, his eyes start to full with small rains of sincerity. “Come with me now,” he says. “Come meet with him.” You smile back before he speaks again, this time with the sound of a concerned parent. “I must add something about Jeon Jung Kook, Ms. Park.”
“What is it?”
“He is –” he stops to choose the right word. “Arrogant? Irritate? Clever dick?”
You can’t help but laugh at the last one.
“Oh, really?”
“Yes,” he continues. “And I am afraid that he is insisting on the word client instead of saying you boss.”
“Client?”
“I am afraid, yes.”
“Does he know who is working for?” You nonsensically ask.
“He says he doesn’t care.”
\
He was arrogant, irritate and most importantly, a clever dick. Although the suit that your company was making him wear was quite good on him, showing his thighs like he is some kind of god – the right word to describe him wasn’t handsome, it was “clever dick”.
Mr. Kang was speaking as you walked inside of the meeting room. “This is Miss Park, the VIP you will be protecting, your boss.”
“My client,” he corrected, almost whispering.
You can’t help but smile his choice of word that is describing the situation. Client. It sounded…right. Almost. “Hello, Ms. Jeon,” you acted like you heard nothing. “I am Park Y/N.”
“Jeon Jungkook,” he says back. “Pleasure to meet you.”
“Pleasure is mine.”
He sure has the oceans inside of his small eyes, or mountains, considering the brown color he had. You had those feelings in every vein of your body, which has been telling you that he had, indeed, a different kind of story lies within his big yet small eyes.
It was not that you have started to grow feelings, but it was that you had a feeling about him – that you have to dig down deep to find the story about him, the story that ended up in here, in this room.
Jeon Jungkook might be your solution, and everybody could come up with that. The odd feeling you were having, however, was telling you that also you were the solution for Jeon Jungkook too. You just didn’t know his question.
“You see, Mr. Jeon –“
“– Call me Jungkook, if you’d like.” He stated.
“You see, Jungkook,” you corrected. “It says here that you have worked for Min’s, and the job you had there was to protect none other than Min Yoon Ki himself, but you quit your job and went missing, until applying to work for me.”
“Wrong,” he interrupted. “I gave you an opportunity to become my client.”
You bitterly smile. “Back to my question, if you’ll excuse,” you stopped for a second, to see if he’ll speak nonsense again before asking.
“Yeah, I’ll excuse.”
Irritated, that was how you felt.
You coughed. “Why did you quit?”
“I was bored, like the question you asked me.”
“Language, Mr. Jeon,” Mr. Kang specified. “She is your boss.”
“She is my client,” he corrected with a smirk on his face. “How many times do I have to remind you that?”
“Let him speak impolitely, Mr. Kang,” you breathed. “I don’t mind.”
“You see?” Jungkook turns to the gentlemen that have been sitting right next to you. “Princess doesn’t mind.”
“So,” you turned to your session. “You were bored and quit. And then? Why did you go missing for three years straight? Until this job?”
“I needed the money.”
“Why this job?”
“I like to save beautiful girl’s asses from danger…that is why.”
Mr. Kang coughed. “Mr. Jeon –“
“– Let him, Mr. Kang,” you babbled. “I don’t mind.”
“Yes,” he continued. “Let me, Mr. Kang.”
Arrogant.
“Do you know and accept everything that is coming with this job?”
He lifted his one eyebrow. “Like what?”
It was your time to be a clever dick.
“Like how you can’t disappear even for one second until I let your ass out?”
He laughed bitterly. “Accepted. What else? You want me to hold your hand until you fall asleep? Or –” He tilted his head before continuing. “Will we be having a panic button for you to press whenever you had a bad dream about your daddy too?”
Clever dick.
You laughed up from your sleeve, a finger massaging your forehead. “Maybe. Will you accept that too?”
“Probably. You’re not ugly, if I have to say.”
“You didn’t have to say…but, thank you, Jungkook, for your kind words.”
He laughed. “Doesn’t matter, Miss Park. Can I sign the contract now? If you don’t have any questions left for me?”
“Oh, I have tons of questions unanswered,” you said. “But I am afraid that I will have to dig deeper myself for them, Jungkook,” you explained looking right inside of his eyes. “And, you can say me Y/N.”
“I prefer,” he stops. “…Princess…if you’ll excuse me.”
“I’ll excuse you.”
“Excellent.”
Irritate, arrogant, clever dick.
Jeon Jungkook was the definition of the mystery. He had this electric that anybody can feel as soon as they are in the same room with him. You knew that Mr. Lee and Mr. Kang was feeling it too. The Min Company must’ve been felt it too when they hired him. He seemed like a good person However, he was also a hybrid of a good man and a man who’s not capable of containing himself.
He was questioning the misfortune that he is having, and thinking of the opportunities that he could’ve been having in another life. He was smart, handsome, yet he seemed like he will be hard to maintain.
But most importantly, he seemed hurt.
He seemed hurt like the way you did.
\
After Jungkook signed up for the job, it was clear that he had to live with you, and this was not like “we’re now living together like a couple” of course – since the home you were staying at that moment was not just consisted the two of you but some other helpers and guardians as well. What Jungkook was ought to was to stick around with you, meaning he got the closest room to yours.
However, what was making you irritate was not Jungkook’s room being so near to yours but the night guards – the men who watch the cameras in the home all night and day. The closest camera you had was outside of your room, meaning if someone is near to your door they will able to see it.
The home was a definition of a safe house, but as for your opinion, it was a living nightmare. You couldn’t even leave the room to get a cup of milk without knowing that someone is watching your footsteps, and they were. All guardians had that little ear pod inside their ears, which was helping them to communicate with each other. They have given you a one too, but it had only one channel to communicate with and that was Jungkook’s. All part of the plan, of course, but somehow, how Jungkook defined you as a client seemed right in some kind of way. It felt like he had the ropes of your life now.
A few weeks ago you liked the night walks in the outside of the house, and since the house was surrounded by a nice and green path walks, it was something you liked to do when you were not able to sleep well.
But now – the only outside you could be able to reach without someone watching was the window of your room’s. If you were about the move a foot outside of the house, a guardian would wake up Jungkook and he would be walking in the night with you – not as a company but a guardian, of course, along with a probably two to three others.
And with a mere of light, an idea popped into your mind as you were repeating the sentence for a couple of times.
“Someone is watching outside of my room,” you stopped for a second and thought about this overly. “Outside of the room, outside of the room, outside of the room…”
“…But not the inside of the room,” you turned your head to the direction of your window, and your window being just below the rooftop, you came with an idea that you could breathe somewhere in the outside without being watched. “If I can climb up to the rooftop…they would still think that I am inside of my room.”
The only thing was making you doubt that was you, never being able to do some kind of sports, and thinking of to climb somewhere higher that can actually kill you if you just slip was dangerous.
“Fuck it,” you came to a decision. Getting up from the bed, you walk as fast as you could near to the window, and get a glance outside of it.
“It looks like it’s not that hard, after all,” you say. “A few steps up and I will be able to sit on the rooftop without being watched. Yes, I can do it.”
You put your one feet on the window seat, one hand holding one side of the window and start climbing up – of course, with a loud (not that loud) “I can do it, I can do it.”
The climb was hustle-free, thanks to replacing your room the nearest to the rooftop, but only “bad” thing that happened to you during your climb was to be a loud climber since the bricks were too old and kind of – breakable.
However, it was nice again to be able to breathe.
…For five minutes, or less than that.
Until the sound of someone you were familiar with pops up from your behind, making you almost having a heart attack.
“Tomorrow is the big day, huh?”
Jungkook asks, with a playful voice of being able to find you even in the rooftop. You, however, was like a rabbit caught in the headlights. “Fuck, Jungkook,” you stuttered. “You scared me.”
You turned your head to him, and see that he is coming from the actual door that opens to the rooftop, because he didn’t have to hide from anyone like you (not that you succeeded).
He was holding a cup of coffee – two actually, one for you and one for him.
How did he know that I was here?
He passes the green cup to you. You took it, but hesitate a bit before taking a sip. “How did you know how I liked my coffee?” You asked, frowning. “Wait…how did you know that I was here? How long have you been watching me?”
“You are not the only one who has a file about someone, in particular, Ms. Park,” he admitted. “I have one about you. It says that you like your coffee this way, and you are a loud neighbor.”
He must have been heard the bricks dropping.
“Oh, is that so?” You joked. “What else does it say about me?”
“That you are not as beautiful as you are in the photos,” he laughs. “Plus, you have daddy issues, and lots of money within.”
You rolled your eyes. “So you thought that I am beautiful when you first saw a photo of me? Caught, are we, Mr. Jeon?”
“So…you accept that you’re having daddy issues, Ms. Park?”
“I also accept that I have lots of money comes with it, Jeon.”
He tilted his head. A signature of him, you thought. “Why don’t we just get along as a client and helper?”
“You identify yourself as a helper?” You laughed. “He is funny.”
“He is right there and can hear, Princess.”
You continue to laugh as you try to maintain your breathing. “You can identify yourself as you’d like, Jeon, however,” you say, and stop to take a sip from your coffee. “As for your first question, I think your humor…is kind of a mask you’re having.”
“I only like masks in bed,” he interrupted. “And only on women.”
“See? Coping mechanism,” you don’t mind the wink he gave you a few seconds ago and try to explain. “Your humor, or the lack of it, it’s how you protect yourself from me.”
“I thought I was the one who had to protect you, Princess.”
“Yes –” you continued. “And you don’t want your true self to expose while doing that, am I wrong, Jeon? You may be a protector, and may be very good at it, but still, there are things you can’t protect yourself from.”
“Like what?”
“Like the truth that I will learn about. The reason you have for yourself for taking down the Min Company,” you lifted your head. “You must have a reason to leave the Min Company three years ago. I’ve seen that you haven’t done a job like this until today.”
He raises an eyebrow. Did I catch you, Mr. Jeon?
“Do you want to take down the Min Company, Ms. Park?”
Of course, he wasn’t going to answer you. What were you to him that you thought he can talk about his personal life to you? Only his boss, and in circumstances, only his client. You stop to think about an answer, and surprisingly, you choose to be honest with him. Do I?
“I only want to punish the ones who had killed my father and brother, Jungkook.”
“Hide there, Y/N.”
“Hide there until daddy comes, okay?”
“Don’t open the door even if something really bad happens, and wait for daddy to open it, okay?”
You cry. “O-okay.”
“I love you, Y/N. Don’t forget that you once had a brother that loved you so, so much, okay?”
You just continue crying. “O-okay.”
“Good girl.”
“Brother?” Jungkook asked an eternity later.
Trying to forget the vision you had a few seconds ago, you try to maintain your agony in your voice. “Didn’t the file tell you about him?”
“I personally don’t rely on files, Ms. Park,” he sounded slightly brittle. “And I suggest you don’t rely on mine too.”
“Noted,” you bitterly cracked a small laugh. “How much do you know?”
“That you had a brother once, and he died aged ten, almost fourteen years ago. I also know that…the attackers were assigned to kill you both, but failed to do so.”
“He saved me,” you breathed in agony. “My brother…he saved me. I saw him…lying on the floor, hardly breathing when the attackers were gone but…I didn’t go to him. I didn’t help him.” You mourned, rain of tears dropping from your face to the lonely ground.
“You were seven,” you saw him biting his lip. “You just did what he told you.”
“I could’ve helped him,” you continue. “I could’ve done something, he could’ve been alive today.”
“You were seven.”
“Do you know what I did when attackers left?” You have faced him, didn’t think the tears on your face.
You have never cared about those things in the first place.
“You were seven, it doesn’t matter.”
“Do you know what I did?”
“Ms. Park –“
“– Jeon Jungkook,” you barged. “I am asking you, do you know what I did when the attackers left the home?”
He shakes his head as a no, too afraid of the weight of the words that he can say to you. You didn’t know if he was saying the truth or not, but you somehow believed that he doesn’t know anything at all, and somehow had a feeling that you have to tell him.
“I fainted.”
He doesn’t say anything back.
“I fainted in the wardrobe my brother told me to hide.”
He just freezes.
“I fainted until I opened my eyes in the hospital.”
He lifts his one hand in the air, weighing in his mind if holding you in that particular moment is the right or the wrong choice for him.
“I could’ve helped him, but I fainted.”
He chooses not to do.
He just stays still until he almost whispers the same thing.
“You were just seven.”
True. You were just seven.
…But seven didn’t change the fact that you were kind of responsible for your own brother’s death.
….Right?
“Sue me for thinking that I can spend more than five minutes outside of my room without being watched.” You changed the subject.
He pursues his lips. “Must suck.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” he answers. “But think about the positive side of this situation.”
“And what is it?”
“That you’re being watched by someone as handsome as me,” he jokes, a feeling goes to your spine that he is indeed, not joking. “You could’ve been paired up with someone ugly as you, and it would be a nightmare for you to look at someone like you the whole day.”
“Shut up,” you roll your eyes. “Let me just breathe for a second, without feeling you right next to me, will you?”
“You hurt my feelings, Ms. Park,” he doesn’t care and continue. “I am a good company to have, am I not?”
“Five out of ten.”
“Really?” He frowns his eyebrow.
“Maybe six.”
“Six out of ten? Counting just the looks or plus the personality?”
“With the personality,” you lie.
He tilts his head, a smirk goes around his face. “With just the looks? Rank just the look for me.”
You stop for a second. Of course, he was ten out of ten, but being this near to his face, it might and probably would be a bad thing to admit.
“I don’t know…”
He laughs in a playful tone. “I must admit something, Ms. Park.”
“What is it?”
“We have to find someone that can replace you as a future CEO,” he pouts, his eyes locked to the gaze of the night.
“And why is that?” Yours was only on him, your brain trying to figure out how beautiful he looks like this – unbothered.
“Because you can’t lie,” Jungkook answers, taking a glance of you. “Ms. Park.”
There were two things about Jeon Jungkook that was making you angry to yourself and the life you were living.
First, he was a hot-damn bodyguard.
Two, he was right.
(And the third thing that will come up to your mind a few days later would be that he was right all the time.)
\
You never fully understood your father. It was the only regret you were feeling after his death. Of course you were close, but of course, he wasn’t around you all the time – but he was actually a loving father and did care about your life and your future.
The only thing left was that he was born into the oblivion and made himself a future with that, but you were born into his palace and the only thing left for you to make it bigger. You always had everything you wanted, at that time, just how you wanted them to be. And – because of that you always felt that odd glance of him when he was looking at you, listening to you even with your smallest ideas about your life and even to the biggest ones. You always felt that he didn’t approve you, and at some point, your idea about life became to get his approval.
Sadly, you couldn’t demonstrate yourself to your father before he passed away. And now you were feeling miserable, out of point, out of meaning in this short life after he’s gone. You were feeling that you don’t have anything left for you to work for, cherish for, protect for.
“Are you ready to listen to his will, Ms. Park?” Mr. Lee spoke in a concerned voice. Of course, he was concerned about you, the only family you have left for you to look after for and vice versa.
Are you?
“Depends. Physically speaking – yes, psychologically speaking, no. I think I never can be ready to hear my father’s final words,” you answered.
He smiled softly, depending on how his upper lip went up for a second. “That is…normal,” he stated. “The pain you’re feeling now is very normal, Y/N. In fact, I’d be concerned if you were hyped over this.”
“But don’t worry,” he continued. “I got you covered, remember?”
I hope so, you thought.
“Where is Jungkook, by the way?”
You haven’t seen him since your little encounter in the house yesterday. You thought that he was going to be with you all the time, and not that you needed protection (physically speaking, of course), as a matter of fact, you could use a friend (again, metaphorically speaking, because you weren’t friends yet.)
“It’s your father’s will, Ms. Park,” Mr. Lee answered. “We don’t need a bodyguard here when it’s revealed.”
“Depends.” You suddenly felt how cold the company were. Or it was just you feeling cold. “If I faint all of a sudden, who would take me to the hospital?”
“A car,” Mr. Lee smiled back as an answer. Very funny of him. “Relax, he’s just doing some paperwork for his contract.”
“Shouldn’t I should see his contract too? Speaking of the one who would be a bodyguard of?”
“No need,” Mr. Lee continued. “He’s not protecting the whole country, Y/N. The contract is always the same. No extra specifications needed. But if you want to read whatsoever, you can always ask for a copy in the information section.”
“Oh…Okay,” you sighed.
Your thoughts get cut seconds later with the presence of someone you have never seen before entering the meeting room of the company.
“Hello everybody, my name is Kim Chang Ki, and I will open and read the original will of Park Min Seok, and I am here to represent the probate court. Shall we begin?”
Oh God, it’s starting.
“Park Min Seok’s will be read in the presence of Lee Kwan Jin, the board of management of the Park Company; Kang Seok Joon, the vice chairman of the board of management, the family members of the Park family,” he stops for a second and look directly into your eyes before continuing. “As for today, the only remaining member of the Park family is Ms. Park’s daughter – and the management consultants of the company. If everyone or anyone presenting them is here, we can start.”
You couldn’t help but get a feeling that you were the one who was presenting the whole Park family. You.
“So,” he coughed softly and took a sip from the water that has been on his table before gripping to the documents he was carrying with him the whole time. He opened a document – meaning a simple, white paper fulfilled with a spot of black ink, with the particular handwriting you were familiar with. He turned the document for everyone in the room to see before starting with your father’s last words on the earth. “I, Park Min Seok, from South Korea, Seoul, Garesu-Gil, born in 1970, November 18th, declare that this is my last will and testament.”
“Everything I have left for this world is the company I gave birth into and raised as my daughter, Park Company. I have left all the shares I have to my family members, and in this case, my daughter – since it’s the only family member I have left. The resigned shares of the company I resigned to while I was alive to my two best friends Mr. Kang and Mr. Lee will continue to have their shares and as a personal wish of mine, they will continue to protect and save my daughter from all evil and bad things that may occur in her life – including shitty boyfriends.”
Oh, Father, pretending to be a serious person for five minutes was really that hard, huh?
Mr. Lee couldn’t help but laugh to that, even if it was very a silent laugh, you could hear that he was enjoying this joke.
“Everything that has my name under, such as cars, houses, properties, and things is now a property of my daughter. However, the %5 amount of my bank account will be donated to the Angel House in Goyangdong; and another %5 of the amount will be donated to the Seoul Central Children’s Home.”
The man continued to read three more orphan houses each one of them having a %3 donation, and it was kind of very odd thing for your father to do. One orphan house but five? Two of them getting a real amount of money?
This was – really another side of your father that you never saw before. You were remembering how he liked children, and how he wanted a cute little grandchild from you, but never actually lived to see that.
Maybe…he did this because of that.
But maybe…that was something else.
“That is…the end,” the man stated. “The paperwork will be done after the approval from council, there are some private letters from the deceased. I will, now, give it to its owners.”
He grabs an envelope and reaches out for you. “This is yours, Ms. Park. I am sorry for your loss. Please sign this paper that you’ve received the letter,” and he gave another paper and pen for you to sign.
That was it.
It was actually really short, like human’s lives, and meaningless – because all your father worked and lived for was resigned to other people with just a letter that left from it.
Just a sign, and everything was yours.
Just a sign, and everything was taken from you.
You couldn’t help but think about the exact moment of your father writing his will. Was he drunk a little? Did he light up the cigar he got from Mexico a few years ago? What was he thinking? Did he think how it would be better if he could say a few more names under the names of the family? Maybe your brother…or, maybe he would choose to write a meaningful paragraph for your mother, and how he loved her during their time on earth.
…Maybe they were together now. Maybe he was happy when he realized that he was dying, because he was going to the place his other half went to many years ago.
…Maybe.
…But that wasn’t a movie – and the real thing was just a click. He probably didn’t have enough time to realize that he was dying after all. He just died. Like how he signed his will. Just a click. Just a drawing of lines. Just a life.
\
You never opened the envelope in the company. I mean…you could, but you just choose not to open it. Not that you were waiting for a spectacular environment to read it…maybe a bottle of wine, a fireplace, or the autumn since he loved the season. You didn’t have reasons except one – you didn’t want to read it.
Why?
Because you were afraid of what it may have inside of it. Simple but effective.
Because you saw how words can change too many things such as how you became a chairwoman of the company with just a few words coming together as a sentence.
Of course, you will read it – just it was not the time.
“Hello to you too, Princess,” it was, of course, Jungkook’s voice who was making you come back to life after all. Does he know how irritated he sounds when he was using princess – or any other pet names? Probably not, and probably doesn’t care, you thought.
“Hey.”
“I’ve been calling you with your name for like…three times now. I see that you became comfortable with the pet name.”
“Princess shouldn’t be considered as a pet name, Jungkook.”
“Oh,” he tilted his head. Again. “I can think of something else. What about…baby?”
“Say that to me one time and I will consider our agreement again.”
“Giving ultimatum already?” He crinkled his nose. “That would never hurt my feelings, Princess. Like how I choose to call you and how you can’t say a thing about it.”
“Do you always treat the ones who give you money like this?”
“Depends,” he pouts and stops for a second to think. “Except for whole protecting you from god-knows-who, everyone who paid me wanted those pet names.”
“Gross,” you curled your lips. “Now I know that you had experiences, maybe several, as a prostitute, how this day could be more interested?”
“Chill,” he rolled his eyes. “You don’t understand jokes, geez.”
“Jungkook,” you called out. “Do I remind you that today I heard from my father for the last time and as for now, I am not the heir but the chairwoman of the entire company? Do I look like I need a joke?”
“Yes,” he pointed out. “You could use either an orgasm to chill or a joke. I can make them both for you if you want to but,” he stopped and probably saw how you were responding to his words. Furious. “…Don’t look at me that way, it’s scaring me.”
“Can’t we just have a decent relationship where we grate each other with full of respect and maybe even use our last names when we call out to each other, and only text when it’s our birthdays?”
“I mean…yeah.”
“Yeah?”
“But the language comes with me. Like a package. I’m a jack ass, that’s it. This is how I make this funnier than it used to have.”
You rolled your eyes. “Fine. Just one agreement. This,” you pointed the two of you with your fingers. “Have to remain secret. To the third person, and whoever they are, including Mr. Kang and Mr. Lee – especially them, they must not know that we’re fighting every second like an old couple. Nor the pet names. I know that I agreed with the princess in the meeting, but I don’t think they’re thinking it was real. Please, do whatever you want, just…not in front of them.”
“Okay.”
“Okay? Really?”
“Yeah,” he shrugs off his shoulders. “Anyway, Princess, I wouldn’t call you baby in your company meetings, you’re over-dramatizing this. It was just a joke.”
“I am over-dramatizing this?”
“Yes.”
“Anyway, Ms. Park,” he called out. How he suddenly used your last name as a name make you feel different and unusual. “I just wanted to ask you how your morning went. I mean…the will and everything.”
“Nothing different. I became the chairwoman, and Mr. Lee and Mr. Kang had their shares, some orphan houses got donation…I’d say – pretty normal, actually.”
You just skipped the letter part. Not that you had to talk about those things to your bodyguard.
“Yeah? Nothing else?”
Does he know anything?
“No?”
“Okay,” he changed his voice pitch, he didn’t believe you. “Just wanted to check…out of respect, as you said before.”
“Thank you, Mr. Jeon. That is very thoughtful of you.”
“No problem,” he shrugs of his shoulders. “But what’s with the orphan houses? I heard that he donated five of them? Two of them got a very big amount?”
So…people were talking. You got a feeling that he knew about the letter.
“I don’t know…” You answered. “I mean…he liked children…that could be it. He always wanted a grandchild, but…”
“I mean, I like children too, Princess,” he tilted his head. Again. “But I don’t go out and donate %20 of my whole money…or around that.”
“Yeah…I know,” you shrugged. “I thought that was weird too, but what could be behind after this? I’m pretty sure he was just being generous.”
“Yeah…yeah, I got it.”
I mean, he knew something. He surely knew something, he just didn’t tell you about it. But…what was the thing he knew about you? Or your father?
As you two were talking in the outside of the company, what other’s called mini garden where people had their drinks and got a chance to smoke between meetings, Mr. Kang came near.
“Ms. Park, Mr. Jeon,” he grated. “I am very pleased to see you two together. I was going to check on both of you.”
“What for?” Jungkook disrespectfully said.
Mr. Kang continued, avoiding eye contact with him. No one was used to Jungkook’s language and how he acts like he owned the world, yet. “There is a dinner that’s going to be held tonight. Ms. Park has to attend it.”
“Isn’t it too soon, Mr. Kang?” You narrowed your eyes. “I mean…I just lost my father and I am the chairwoman of the company for like…one hour and a half?”
“Indeed, Ms. Park, it is the perfect opportunity for you to step up.”
“Step up to what?” Jungkook asks.
“Step up to who, would be the perfect question, Mr. Jeon,” Mr. Kang answered back. “The Min’s are arranging the dinner, they are celebrating a deal made with a very big company of the States, but the deal hasn’t made yet. It’s in two weeks.”
“You mean…they are celebrating my father’s death?”
“They are using the opportunity, it is war, Y/N. They are going to use the silence from our company and make the press and the possible agreements to turn their side.”
“But…Prin–Ms. Park,” he glances for you to see that you’re not fainting over his almost-said pet name, and the fact that – you weren’t. “Will announce that she’s attending the dinner and make them think that Park’s back in the field.”
“You’re right, even though I don’t approve your choice of words, Mr. Jeon,” Mr. Kang turned his gaze over Jungkook and continued. “And you will be attending the dinner with him.”
“Am I attending the dinner with my bodyguard? Wasn’t that will make everyone think that I am afraid of something?”
“Jeon Jungkook is your personal bodyguard, but the world doesn’t need to know that, Ms. Park.”
You waited for a second to think about it, it was still complicated and you weren’t exactly following, but it was somehow – clever. “But, Jungkook previously worked for the Min Company, he protected the Min Yoongi himself…”
“Exactly,” Mr. Kang smiles, and to be exact, the smile was sending shivers down your spine. What was that smile about? “It’s the point, Ms. Park. Min’s won’t say anything, because they think that Jungkook holds something against them.”
“Do you?”
He moves his lips into a pout and shakes his head as a no.
…A very straight-forward answer, it was.
…He was definitely holding something.
“So…they will fear about us hiring Jungkook?”
Jungkook clenched his jaw. “Again. Not exactly hired. You came to me as a client,” he stated with a fierce tone in his voice.
“Anyway,” Mr. Kang interjected into the conversation out of blue. “The dinner is tonight, you two could use some time in shopping…alone from each other, I might add.”

You definitely have lost some weight, not that you thought that you needed, or not that you cared – but the thing with you losing weight was just because of sadness. Or it has been very long since you looked yourself in the mirror with a tight dress and full makeup. But you were sure that the broken-white dress you had in your wardrobe for years now was not that good looking, or you were just growing.
Growing old.
Despite how you told everyone that you didn’t need someone who will make your hair and make-up done, they sent someone anyway, because it was a big deal and you were not supposed to be seen like you were grieving over your dad – which, was the whole situation you were having these days. Grieving over your dad. Like a normal child. Just normal didn’t work with more-powerfull-than-some-countries companies, that’s all.
And, to be exactly true, they did a great job.
You weren’t feeling beautiful for weeks now, and how you changed into someone else in just one dress and make-over was really fascinating.
And it was going to be your first appearance as a chairwoman.
Oh, how you would be grateful to have that status if it wasn’t for your father to be dead all of a sudden, probably because of murder (and that is still, a mystery, by the way). You always wanted to be the chairwoman of your father’s company, but always imagined a lovely dinner that has been holding in your family house, probably in spring, and your father giving a speech about how you were fund over his works and how you earned that place.
Of course, none of them happened.
Oh, how you didn’t earn that place…
“You look beautiful,” Jungkook whispered from the crack of your bedroom door. He pushes the door open and gets his way in. “I did knock the door for two times, by the way, you’re just out of this earth today.”
“Yeah…I am.”
“Huh?” He tilts his head. “You’re not going to fight? Say things about my language? How irritated I am?”
“No,” You stood still. “Not today. Isn’t it time? We have to leave.”

The car ride was very quick, even with the rush hour at that time. The dinner was going to be held in a hotel in the center of the city, obviously – since the Min’s liked the attention. Every spring they had their “Welcoming the Season Dinner” at their out of the city house, a farm-like palace. Every summer they had some dinners in Busan, Jeju and even in Japan. If the Company of the Min’s could be a person, she would be the attention-seeker, head of the mean-girls type of girl. That was sure.
Even the car ride was being this quick, as you were looking the man sitting right behind you in the dark evening of the city. He was leaning on to the window behind him, looking outside of the car, in his normal presence.
But for you – he looked really handsome tonight. The suit was perfectly looking good on him, the yellow light that has been coming from the street lamps were smashing on his face, the silence in the car was mixed through his breathing…
You’ve always loved the street lamps, and how they’re dancing in someone’s face while driving…today, it was their dance with Jungkook.
…And he was beautiful.
“Jungkook,” you whisper, afraid of the driver and how they could hear you.
He turns to your side, looking like a lost-bunny. “Hm?”
“You look beautiful tonight too.” You whisper again – afraid of the world hearing the conversations the two of you have. Because in fact, he is somehow a person you want to keep secret from everyone.
Not that you’re ashamed.
…But he must be protected.
He smiles as an answer.

As the two of you get in from the car, there is something you two sharing for today, different but the same feelings. You both are very anxious, you both are dick heads who won’t admit that they’re anxious, you both doing something for the first time today – it’s your first appearance as a chairwoman, and it’s his first appearance as your personal bodyguard, and it’s probably because it was his first dinner with him actually sitting in the table, not how he attend before with the Min’s.
“So, as this is my job; if you feel something is not quite normal, or if you feel like the food is different, or if someone is making you uncomfortable – tell me. Don’t hesitate. I will follow you everywhere you go, but if something happens and you lose me, I want you to press the button.” Jungkook spoke with a confident image. Professional.
“What button?”
“Oh, I forgot,” he stated. Maybe not so professional. “Wait.” He searches something in his pockets for a few seconds and grabs something, a sign for you that he found that something. He pulls out a bracelet, a very thin and elegant one.
“It looks expensive, doesn’t it?”
“Yes, and it’s…beautiful.”
“Mr. Kang helped me with this. I always used this kind of things to be sure about where my client is, but he refused to use a panic button because you were going to be photographed every time – but luckily we had this idea. It was actually my idea,” he points out the stone in the middle of the bracelet. A blue, small stone. “You can open this. The button is inside of the stone. If you press the button, I’ll hear an alarm in my ears. You can’t see but I have something in my ears, and I’ll easily track you down with my phone.”
“That is…kind of uncomfortable but somehow…brilliant.”
“Isn’t it?” He laughs.
You kept looking to the bracelet which was still, on Jungkook’s hand, and not yours.
“Can you?” You pointed out the bracelet with your eyes. “Or if you liked it too much, you can have it.”
He laughs again. “Making jokes…I am turning you into me.”
You laughed back as he holds your wrist to put the bracelet into where it belongs. With the touch of his skin to yours, you felt like maybe it wasn’t just those things you were both feeling about today – not just this dinner being the first, and how you were both anxious. It was something different. A bonding? A sincerity?
Maybe it was just you weren’t used to be surrounded with an attractive man in your life and considering how you two were spending almost every day together, it was normal that you had those little, plaguesome fireworks in your body.
Or – considering how you didn’t even any friend near to you for days to even speak about usual stuff let alone your father’s death, him being there 7/24 wouldn’t be that bad anyway, and you came to a sense that you could use a company.
“Shall we?” He called you.
You nodded as you hold his hand through the hotel’s door.
“And Y/N?” He whispered to your ear as you two stepped into the door.
“Yes?”
“I’m here. Don’t worry.”
\
JUNGKOOK’S POV
Seeing how anxious she was, you couldn’t help yourself and did that little thing you were, probably, shouldn’t.
“And Y/N?” You called out for her.
“Yes?”
“I’m here. Don’t worry.”
Doesn’t matter, Jungkook, you thought to yourself. Anyone could use a little thumbs-up from day to another, right? She won’t get it wrong.
She smiled as an answer. Predictable.
The dinner was somehow, okay, and quiet after the press thing. Maybe you two were really anxious as you stepped into the press section, and once it was done, the anxious part of you have vanished. Just like getting done a needle.
Even Y/N was looking – alright. At least she didn’t seem like she was about to faint any second anymore.
She was probably thinking that you were anxious about the dinner, cute – but she didn’t know the real reason behind your anxious self.
You were going to see him. After three years.
And you were going to see him again.
And – you were now ready…to step up to his face.
“Ms. Park?” You called for her as she was trying to look like she was fund over the chicken on her plate.
“Yes?” She answers from the oblivion.
“I am going to the bathroom. Will you be okay?”
She nods her head as a yes. “Yeah.”
“Perfect.” You smile.
So…where is he now? The schedule was saying that the Min’s would be having a speech after the dinner but you were sure that he was around here…speaking to people about how perfect the deals are going with his father’s company.
Where is he?
Where is he?
There were too many people, too many people speaking the same old stuff to other people.
The same faces, the same dresses, the same faked smiles, and the same fake conversations. The same talks about where to spend their precious summer with the whole family.
Dubai? Vietnam? Oh, so you’re going to Jeju! Money must be spent in the country, right dear? We could totally think about Jeju Island, what do you say, Husband? We can go to our beach house in Jeju for the holiday instead of going to New Zeland? Oh yeah, …we were thinking about New Zeland, interesting choice, wasn’t it?
But…where is he?
Where is he?
You turned your left as you came to another section of the hotel. It was, indeed, a very big dinner that they were holding, and you were looking for the honor of the host.
You were becoming anxious, not that you were afraid of him, but you were afraid of now being able to face him after three years. You were afraid that the Min’s won’t be coming for an hour or two, and you didn’t want to wait anymore second at all.
The minute you had an urge to go back to Ms. Park, because you thought it has been a little long and she must’ve been feeling lonely in the table – you saw a thin frame standing in front of you, his back is facing you.
He’s blonde now.
There he was.
There he was.
The great Min Yoongi.
He didn’t see you back, and you wanted to take the opportunity. You quickly grabbed a glass of champagne from the table and silently stepped closer to him.
“And my father was, indeed, very fond over the agreement I have arranged in the States, but he didn’t even actually believe the other countries I have in line, you see, I am not just thinking about - ”
Now. "Oh, Minnie is here."
Min Yoongi was trying to hide his frustration of seeing a familiar face from the past. “Ah! Jungkook,” he quickly acted like you were a friend from a few years ago to make his guests go. “Sorry, everyone, I have to great my friend over there.” He smiles like the devil himself, but only you could understand the real creature he was. He grabs your shoulder to escort you somewhere quiet from all the faces and ears. “Shall we, Jungkook?” He points the outside of the hotel.
You follow him to the dark alley.
As soon as you two stepped a foot inside of the darkness, he switches a furious tone in his voice, talking while spitting anger to the ground. He’s not that happy to see you at all. "Funny thing - money. It makes you think that you can just fuck around with your boss,” Min Yoongi says after he’s sure you two are alone in the presence of dark night.
"Ex boss,” you smile. “And I prefer client."
He puts his hand in his pocket, cracking a silent laugh yet still an irritated one. "So you are now the side Park, Kookie?" Yoongi asks.
He knows that you were now a bodyguard of the Park’s.
You took a step closer to him. "I am side money, and a little bit revenge too,” you pointed out with narrowed eyes.
Min Yoongi doesn’t hesitate, nor afraid.
"Still chasing the Kim Tae Hyung's accident?"
You bared your teeth, squeezing your fist to make him afraid of you – but with hearing his voice again, from the one who killed him, was making your voice crack.
"It was not accident Minnie, and you know it,” you said back with squinted eyes.
Min Yoongi is somehow, looking more relaxed than he’s ever been – because now he holds a company in his hands, he doesn’t see you as a threat. "Stop calling me Minnie."
"Stop calling me Kookie then," Jungkook said. "It was not an accident, and I will make sure that you and your pathetic life will pay for it."
Yoongi laughs. “You?” He steps back. “You? Really? By using Park’s power? Using little Park girl as your weapon? Money? Really Jungkook?” He takes one more step from you, towards the entrance of the hotel. “I would like to see you try.”
As he vanishes from the dark to the light of the hotel’s entrance, he comes back to say one more thing.
“Taehyung died three years ago. Is it really took you to understand that he’s gone and I’m the one who is responsible for that…three years? Pathetic. I thought you’d came much sooner, Kookie.”
You swallow hard, a trace in your throat making you remember the pain you had a few years ago after he’s gone.
“Good evening Kookie, I hope you enjoy your dinner and the girl.”
| hope you enjoyed the episode! too much thing happened, i think...
