So I'm here to go— I can only imagine you have a lot to say about Jing Yuan's reaction to Yao Guang taking his place to go to Planarcadia, no? He seemed fine, but that's always the thing with our beloved Arbiter-General, isn't it? He always seems a certain way, but do you have thoughts to share?

Oh boy oh boy, do I. Let's break this down, because there's a few layers to this:

Initially, surprise. Of course, who wouldn't be surprised to be more or less snubbed of their honor? But here's the thing — no matter what their relationship looks like on the outside, no matter how tense or full of friction, he implicitly trusts Yao Guang's decisions regarding the greater Xianzhou, regardless of how he feels about her on an individual level. If Yao Guang had decided there was something so dire that she had to disrupt the chessboard, of course he wouldn't protest. They're of the same mind, after all — he has to trust her decisions. Though they're leading different ships, together they are part of the seven pillars of the Xianzhou. And while he'd certainly be more than fine with laying his life down for the Xianzhou, Yao Guang's orchestrations imply that he has a bigger role to serve for the Alliance.

That being said. He doesn't agree with Yao Guang's methodology 100% of the time. The chaos of her arrival to Planarcadia (and poor Tingyun), and how Feixiao was evidently covering for her (I love Yao Guang's trailer so, so much), did not inspire much confidence. We know how he is. Everything is meticulously planned, with contingencies where possible. Improvisation, for him, stems from a series of branching expectations of his allies and opponents. He respects her, alright, but I think I would have been lying if I said he wasn't a little anxious seeing the chaos unfold.

Finally, current events. I feel... so upset for him knowing everything that occurred in the current patch, (of which most things have been alluded to since the previous one), and I can't say that he wouldn't think it unfair, even for a split second, that once again he is being left behind. It's not only Blade and Dan Heng who have a vendetta against Shuhu. Baiheng was his friend too. Shuhu clashed with his predecessor. Shuhu probably was the reason Jing Yuan took Teng Xiao's place. He has a stake in this too, and, I think, that is explicitly why Yao Guang intervened. I also think Jing Yuan understands this well, so he doesn't hold it against her. I'd say he's even grateful for her keeping him out of the fray, lest his presence disrupts the fragile balance hanging between the other two. Lest he decide to do something terrifically stupid. Lest he do the last thing either of them want and take on some of their karmic debt himself, or die trying. From the very beginning until now, he honors Yao Guang's decision and sacrifice. Still, being unable to do anything but watch it all unfold, again, and wait to do damage control if needed? It fucking sucks.

i won't speak for aventurine here but for topaz i don't think this happens straight away. of course, there is that initial and sudden realisation ( which we are writing out currently ), but this is mostly just the realisation that all of these feelings for aventurine are actually attraction and a desire to be with him more than just as colleagues and friends. the realisation that she is in love comes later on, probably in a very quiet and private moment down the line where she realises just how easy and comfortable it is to be with aventurine, in spite of everything.

🌹 Who fell harder & who fell first? (This'll be a fun one to see your opinion on)

i actually feel like this is a tough one because they both fell hard, but at different points in time. aventurine certainly fell first, or else nothing would have ever developed in their relationship lmao, but i don't know if i necessarily want to say he fell any more or less hard than topaz did? though i think the feeling of it was different for both of them: as you've said before, for aventurine that realisation just felt right, even if it happened in the worst of circumstances for him, whereas for topaz it was literally like getting smacked in the face with a shovel fdkgjdfg

😳 What’s the most embarrassing thing they’ve walked in on the other doing?

i can't ( and i'm not sure i want to ) speak for aventurine on this lmao, but in topaz's case aventurine has definitely walked in on her reading smutty romantic fiction on the fly — and, worse still, this was before they got together. topaz didn't hear the end of it for at least the next three weeks after that. she was mortified.

💔 What’s the one fight that almost ended them?

it's interesting because i think, had the events of 2.1 happened after these two had confessed their romantic feelings for each other, that could well have been the one thing to nearly end them. and while i don't know whether i could pinpoint a specific example going forward that would push them to the brink, i know it's certainly aventurine's more reckless gambles that tend to draw topaz's genuine ire. so seeing him face acheron's blade and continue to throw it all on the line even after that is a reality that topaz undoubtedly has to accept, but she definitely doesn't have to be happy about it lmao.

👀 Who gets jealous more easily & how obvious are they about it? (Go ahead, you know you want to, Lottie)

okay okay so. they both get jealous, however aventurine is waaay more obvious about it. to the point where topaz has to persuade him to not accompany her to this fancy investor dinner because this is her deal and, for all that they often work together, she doesn't want him interfering. but topaz can get jealous too, especially after they become official — but she's actually a little more passive aggressive about it. especially when she sees him doing it on purpose.

😤 Who apologizes first after a fight, even if they weren’t wrong?

what if i said this was aventurine? of course this wouldn't be the case for their usual bickering, in that instance neither of them are wrong and that is the hill they will die on — but if we're talking about an actual proper argument, i do feel like aventurine is the first to come to topaz to apologise because her silent treatment is one of the worst things to have ever happened to him. no i'm not being dramatic, i can see him saying it in those exact words sae. tell me i'm wrong.

🧩 What tiny habit of the other do they find unbearably adorable?

i'm gonna cheat here because i can't quite pinpoint yet what topaz finds adorable specifically, but i know topaz finds it extremely compelling to watch aventurine at work. he's a social chameleon in the way that she is not, and she especially likes that look in his eye when his adversary or mark believes they have the upper hand in a negotiation and aventurine is ready and prepared to pull out the rug from under them and prove that it was a part of his plan all along.

⚓ If one of them had to leave forever, what would they leave behind for the other?

???? sae what is wrong with you. we know this would more likely than not be aventurine and honestly i don't wanna know what he would leave behind for topaz. don't tell me ( please tell me ). but topaz would leave him numby, which is either a curse or a blessing depending on how he sees it, and she's content with that B)

"Tratta gli altri come vorresti essere trattato" è una stronzata. Se non ricevo rispetto in cambio, non sono obbligato a continuare ad essere gentile. Alcune persone non meritano la tua gentilezza, meritano di essere messe al loro posto. Quindi ricorda, avere un cuore buono non significa dover sopportare le idiozie di chiunque.
