Dear Mizzou

This might be a charged post. We’ll see. If you haven’t heard of the Mizzou situation just Google “Mizzou” and it will all come up. I was with the movement and some of what it stood for, you can’t have people yelling racial slurs, harassing others because of race.

Now I said I was with the ‘movement’… Why did I stop? The KKK is not at Mizzou folks. What you have are idiots that are racists and nothing is being done about it. That’s a problem. What you have used is a buzz word to get attention to the situation. The 2nd thing is how your movement denied the media access to the “safe zone”. Denying free speech is a fantastic way to isolate yourself. 3rd your demand letter.

Demands 3-7 are nothing more than social justice warrior requests. Demand number 3 has to deal with a list of demands that were made by Legion of Black Collegians, most of which were money appropriations as well as a council position, majority of these are out of date. They also demand for the faculty to more accurately reflect the student body (which we’ll get to shortly).

Demand number 4: demands that the percentage of black faculty be increased arbitrarily (by 10 percent) . I could understand if the faculty didn’t match the student composition, however the student body make up is almost identical to the faculty make up. What you are asking is for people that currently have jobs with Mizzou to be released/fired/laid off and replace with black faculty? This is a higher institution of learning you hire the most capable people for the position. What about the Asian faculty. Currently they make up 2% of the current faculty. Demand number 5: this confuses me. Why wouldn’t a university want to prevent turnover? If they lose students they lose money. From a financial perspective this makes zero sense. Also the demand is very open ended, leaving anything for interpretation. Definitely not as specific as the demand letter from the Legion of Black Collegians.

Demand number 6-7: asking for appropriations, and hiring more “persons of color” to couseling positions, also specifically mentions Social Justice Center. Social justice carries a negative connotation to it, especially with how far people take it. Much like in this case….

Again I’m with you all in a few of these. However when you ask for existing staff to be let go in lieu of what you believe is the “right thing to do”?? You’ve turned the narrative into from a small minority from yelling slurs (according to all news outlets I can’t find anything else regarding it), and a few online threats (arrests were made) into a KKK clan that’s occupied Mizzou and is the center of all oppression.
