Cryptid of the Day: Inkanyamba 

Description: Within the countries of South Africa and Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), there are tales of an eel-like water beast with the head of a horse. It is blamed for storms and death, though these claims are dismissed as hysteria. But there have been sightings of the serpent, including a few photographs (one pictured above). These photos were also dismissed as hoaxes, while modern sightings could be explained away by misidentifications of local populations of eels.

I know I've done great snakes already, but the Inkanyamba has powers! It can contol storms and waterfalls, and some other fun things! It also has a horse head, but with this angle, that wasn't happening. 😂

For sure, one I wanna redo!

Inkanyamba

The Inkanyamba is a legend in South African mythology, where it is believed that a large serpent with a horse head lives in a lake near Pietermaritzburg. The local tribes believe it to be a terrifying creature which is particularly active in the summer months. The legend of the Inkanyamba originated from cave paintings that were found in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. These animals have been referred to as rain animals due to their appearance during storms.

The Inkanyamba is a lake monster believed to live in the northern forests near Pietermaritzburg in South Africa. It is often said to dwell at the base of Howick Falls. The local Zulu tribes describe the creature as a large serpent with a horse-like head.

It is believed that the Inkanyamba slumbers for much of the year, but becomes particularly active during the summer months. Seasonal storms are sometimes blamed on the Inkanyamba's anger.
