i keep wondering what gelphie would be like in the inn AU maybe 5 years after the last chapter. and honestly… this is what your fics do to me. i’m usually never this obsessed with the “after” — i’m at peace with endings — but i love your galindas and elphabas so fucking much it’s actually insane.

so yeah, i was wondering if you maybe have any headcanons for the professors au and SPECIALLY the inn au? do they move together, maybe they marry or adopt another dog or a cat IDK it would literally make my day. my week. my YEAR.

hello my dear dear anon! this message made me immeasurably happy. sorry to leave you hanging for a few days but i did have a reason— the 17k inn au epilogue is out now and you can find it right here! the reception of this fic has meant the world to me i just had to give you guys some more. i hope it makes your day week year!

but because you asked i do also have headcanons for u that aren't in the body of the epilogue text. prepare for a long post, sorry everyone!

for prof au!

my main headcanon is that every single student suspects they’re dating. glinda doesn’t even consciously hide this fact. if elphaba is found in the art history lounge it’s a topic of conversation. but basically it’s not a secret — they’re chaperoning supplemental trips together and arriving at every student showcase holding hands

the student newspaper crossword features one of them as a clue and glinda gets it framed

glinda also pays an absurd amount of money for a really romantic ritzy couples photo shoot and elphaba says it’s stupid but she does keep the best pictures on her desk… interesting 

i also think they get married eventually but since their epilogue was much closer chronologically to the ending I haven’t really worked out the details— regardless they and the cats are very happy together forever and ever and glinda gets her book published (and many more) and they remain shiz’s hottest faculty in more ways than one

and for inn au!

once you read the epilogue you will know their plans for the future, but as a preview into what they haven’t figured out: they have a spring wedding. crope bakes the cake and galinda insists that elphie wear a flower crown, but then she gets emotional about how pretty she looks

elphaba becomes official co owner of the inn, but she does other odd jobs — freelance journalism still, and I think she probably gets really involved in local history too (maybe she writes a guide or volunteers at a museum in town)

i don’t think killyjoy is ready for a sibling yet, and i am also not sure if a human (or dog) sibling is in the cards for the two of them. however i do think they’re more likely than my other au gelphies to have a child but maybe just the one. I honestly can’t decide so choose your own adventure w this one lol! 

after a productive honeymoon tour of staying in other inns to get a leg up on the competition, they decide the shale shallows inn is by far the best except it could use a porch swing (elphaba installs this herself and only needs a little help). glinda wins some local award and is very intense about it (it goes on her business cards). they do other stuff on their honeymoon too but that’s between the two of them. the novelist is out having a smoke or whatever they say these days

BUT! most importantly i love hearing what you all have to say about your hc’s and want to emphasize that this story isn’t mine anymore so you’re free to imagine whatever you like!

The Horned Toad Inn

Running a bed and breakfast was supposed to be an easy post-college gig for this group of friends, but it’s proven to be something a little bit more difficult than they’d expected. 

Characters A, B, C, D, & E open the “Horned Toad Inn” after designing the establishment as a part of their final project in their respective majors. Each of the characters had their own specialty, including bartending, cooking, hospitality, finances, and cleanliness. They’d ensured that the immersive space allowed guests to feel as if they’d truly teleported to one of their favorite fictional taverns, be that at the Prancing Pony or the Sleeping Giant Inn.

The first month went incredibly smoothly, and they housed many enthusiasts over the course of those first few weeks. There did come a time, though, where the costumes of those entering were a little bit too realistic, and then there were the gold pieces used as payment by a particularly convincing Orc. They had a serious problem.

Please note that this could go in a few directions:

The Horned Toad Inn inexplicably exists in both the fantasy world and reality, leaving the group to try and figure out how to function as the bridge between dimensions.

The Horned Toad Inn itself acts as an amplifier for the features someone adds to themself, making them more; if you paint yourself green, you slowly become green. In a way, the inn has a way of granting wishes -- just be sure you look nice when you check in.

The Horned Toad Inn looks so realistic and has the rune mark for “safe” on the door, meaning it attracts true magical creatures from the surrounding towns and wilderness looking for a place to rest.

Could you write some fluffy winter 13, please?

No one told James that the new woman who was renovating Angie’s Inn was so…his type. In fact, Nat probably didn’t tell him for that specific reason so that he could make a damned fool out of himself when he first met her for the renovations. 

“Hey, I’m Sharon.” 

“Um, nice to meet you. I’m Bucky. Well, James Barnes. Sounds more professional.” 

“I think I’ll stick with James,” Sharon says. “Bad experience at a Buc-ee’s when I was down in San Antonio.” She shudders, then looks back at him. “But hey, it’s in the past. Let me show you what I need done.” 

The house is in pretty good shape, all things considered. Just needs some paint, woodwork, and a couple of hard jobs. 

“I can do the paint,” Sharon says. “I have some rags and stuff. You just focus on the stairs and new handrails.” 

It’s a challenge, really, to be working around someone like Sharon. She sings along to all of her playlists, has an infectious laugh, and isn’t afraid to paint the kitchen a brilliant, bold blue. 

It helps that she looks cute in coveralls, which he didn’t think was possible. 

They eat lunch together, with the sunlight dappling skin through the trees as they sit under it. 

“What made you move back?” James asks her. “Not exactly excitement like in DC or something.” 

“I missed breathing,” Sharon responds after a moment. “I love DC, always will. I miss some of the restaurants, some of the people I met over there. But when I was there, I felt like something was missing. Like I couldn’t really connect with anyone, because they all wanted something. My favorite place became my apartment.” 

He nods, taking a bite out of an apple. 

“I get that. I was raised in New York for a while. Brooklyn specifically. Definitely an acquired taste. Still couldn’t get used to the sound all night,” he says. “Here, it’s quiet at night. Only real thing you hear is a laugh at something some of the kids are doing.” 

“It’s wonderful,” Sharon says. She’s looking out at the flower garden, blooming again after careful work and help from Bruce down the way. 

As the house comes together, Sharon realizes that she doesn’t want to go back to being alone. She sleeps alone in the house, looking forward to seeing James in the morning when she makes the biscuits for the day. 

The thing that she didn’t say about moving is that she was alone. She felt so alone day in and day out, even though she was surrounded by people. But everyone was in a hurry. 

She remembers Angie and Peggy being so in love, so completely made for each other. And Sharon wants that, probably more than she’s ever admitted to herself. 

It doesn’t help things when James comes early and brings her new tea towels that Pepper embroidered while on bed-rest for her first child. Or that he has new music to show her, always the exact taste. 

“Good morning,” he says, smiling sleepily. “Didn’t wake up in time to get coffee.” 

“I think I might have a coffeemaker in the basement,” Sharon says. “Let me go get it.” 

“Oh, you don’t have to.” 

“Believe me, I owe you a lot more than coffee,” Sharon says. “I think I know where Aunt Peg hid it…” 

They both go down to the basement, which admittedly needs a better organizational system than it has, but that’s a problem to tackle next week while Sharon tries to figure out how to get more outdoor furniture without breaking the bank. 

“Be careful,” James warns. “Looks a little bit shaky.” 

“I’ll be sure to have you catch me,” Sharon teases, standing on her tiptoes to reach the shop. “We’ll have to clean it, it’s–” 

She loses her balance, yelling a little bit as she falls back, James catching her by the waist and steadying her. 

“Told you,” he teases. He reaches over her, grabbing the old pot. “Oh god, there’s a fly in there.” 

“Nothing a little bleach can’t fix!” Sharon says. “Come on, I can clean it.” 

She definitely doesn’t think about how nice him holding her was, because that’s just desperate. (But god, she is desperate.) 

James lies awake at night. Sometimes he can’t stop thinking of her, and this is one of those nights. 

Because he can’t imagine not stopping by and fixing up the house, not going for lunch and thinking of the garden as home. 

He makes a resolution to go up there himself and tell her, if it’s the last thing he does. 

Well then the plumbing goes out. 

And then part of the basement falls because the wood rots out. 

And then they have to work together because flooding is particularly bad, even though they planted new blackberry bushes to help anchor some of the excess water. 

“Oh my god,” Sharon groans. “This sucks.” 

“Do we have more towels?” 

“We’re ruining the bath towels.” 

“The lilac ones?” 

“Ugh,” James groans. “Those were the good ones.” 

They finally stop it for the afternoon, with the sunshine going on. Sharon orders a pizza, doesn’t even try to think about flood damage, and they lie down on the couch, bone tired. 

“This is hard work today,” James says. 

“I’d kill for a drink,” Sharon responds. “But I can’t get up.” 

They lay on the couch for a while before there’s the telltale knock on the door, signalling pizza. James gets up from his position, slightly swaying to the door. 

“I can get the pizza, just let me find my purse.” 

“Nah, we ruined the towels,” James responds, smiling. “Save it for the store-run tomorrow.” 

“You’re a life-saver.” 

After a sturdy meal of pizza and a little bit of bottled water, they’re watching Netflix together and not saying much. 

It isn’t until late, when Sharon’s nearly nodding off that James really looks at her. 

“What? What is it?” she asks, stretching. “Something on my face? Please tell me you didn’t leave pepperoni on my face and thought it’d be funny.” 

“No, not that,” James says. “That’d be ridiculous. It would ruin your skin routine.” Sharon smiles at that. 

“Then what is it?” 

“Other than the flood, I think of one more thing I want to work on.” 

“Which is?” 

“A relationship.” It’s silent for just a moment. “I mean, if you want. If not, then–” 

“It better not show up on my bill,” Sharon warns. “Relationships are usually free of charge. Besides the occasional dinner.” James slowly grins, looking at her. 

“I’ll take you for breakfast on Sunday?” 

“To Bruce’s little cafe?” 

“Of course, where else would we go? Nowhere else has as good of biscuits and gravy.” 

Sharon grins, bidding him goodbye for the night. 

Even if there are setbacks along the way, she can’t wait to see what they build together.
