How is your inner speech mostly like?
I talk to myself in first person (e.g. I gotta do this)
I talk to myself in second person (e.g. You gotta do this)
I talk to myself in second person but I imagine it's someone* else talking to me
I have conversations between myself and someone* else in my imagination
I talk to myself in third peson (e.g. y/n gotta do this)
I don't talk to myself, I just... think
Other (mind sharing?)
It varies between two or more of the above that much I can't choose just one
I don't have inner speech (oh, okay!)
*this can be an imaginary character (created by you or someone else) or a real person that you imagine talking to/with you
Many of us talk to ourselves in our heads pretty much all day long. But it turns out that there are plenty of people who don’t. In fact, thi
Okay, we've discussed aphantasia - in lack of inner imagery - but here's a new question: do you have inner speech? I've linked to a podcast about this (there's a transcript, too) in the Comments.
My own daily life is directed/narrated/remarked-upon in my inner voice. And I hear every word I read or write. Often, a line of dialog was the first thing that set a chapter or entire novel off.
Characters had very distinct voices as the stories developed. I sometimes felt that I was just transcribing their "speech." As I used to say, "There's a fine line between what I do as a novelist and a condition people take medication for..."
The experience was especially vivid with particular characters. There was a night on tour for Dreamers, when I was also writing Doc, when I woke up in my hotel room to Doc's "voice" telling me, "Write this down, darlin." That became the scene when he asked each visitor to "Tell me about a day when you were happy."

is it weird to have adhd and not have a constant stream of crazy and loud thoughts?? my head is like,,pretty empty on its own and I always create my own noise but I always feel so invalid when people are like “people with adhd can relate to this audio because this is what our minds sound like!!” and then the audio is pure chaos but I just,,don’t relate
oh inner experience is a past hyperfixation of mine i can explain
okay the first thing ur getting wrong is that that isnt what their heads actually sound like, its metaphor about how chaotic the thoughts they make feels like internally
secondly thing so the theory of inner speech (ive done reading on this)
it that there is about 5 types, inner speech, inner seeing, inner emotions, inner feeling (touch, tactile), and pure thought (extremely rare)
these can all be mixed with each other to create blends (except for pure thought)
from what your saying you say you create your own noise so I am going to assume you have inner speech the most common kind and what I have too, with a mix of inner seeing
so you can have different degrees of how constant and incessant your inner speech is, i personally have a constant monolgue with no pauses
if i am not speaking in my head, i will be speaking outloud or focusing on something with intensity
otherwise its constant chatter which is why people can relate it to such chaotic noises because hearing urself talking in ur head constantly all your life is hell for me personally
i think you have inner speech but just not as severe in intensity
a lot of people can just stop thinking in their heads and be mentally empty for a bit
but your degree of inner speech is not indicative of whether you have adhd or not
its simply the most common type of inner experience is inner speech,
and people with adhd tend to be more hyperactive and constant inner speeches thus causing those types of posts to gain so much popularity
its a common adhd experience but not universal
there are many types of inner experiences and there is currently no science behind what determines what type you have
mmm hyperfixation really jumped out of me okay hope this helps
Man, through his imaginal activity, literally "calls into existence the things that do not exist."
[Romans 4:17].
By man's imaginal activity, all things are made, and without such activity, "was not anything made that was made."
[John 1:3].
could you please describe what racing thoughts feel like? i keep seeing that they’re common in people with adhd, but all the explanations i’ve read confuse me (cause i’m dumb).
okay you probably dont understand, because you have a different type of inner experience ur not dumb, or just a less constant one
theres 5 types of inner experiences (i got a post in detail read here)
inner speech and inner seeing being the most common
racing thoughts are more typical to people with inner speech that is very constant
what that means is say a sentence, then close you mouth and imagine saying a sentence but oop its in ur head now thats inner speech
if it sounds the same outloud as in ur head thats inner speech
youre inner speech generally is faster then ur speech outloud so it works faster
adhd affects memory so you can loose track of what you had been just thinking of as you forget,
this leads your thoughts to jump from one topic to another, and faster thinking means you make jumps and connections faster than others
this would be hard to understand if you had a different type of inner experience like solely inner seeing
most people generally have inner speech with a little inner seeing mixed in (if you cant inner see AT ALL its called aphantasia)
inner seeing is basically imagine an apple, then ur brain can pull up an image of what an apple looks like into the void of your head
read the articles in the link i put above if u wanna find out more stuff but thats the gist
HHHH inner speech is on of my old hyperfixations srry
but yeah its basically
your inner monologue talks faster than others (SPEED)
makes connections quicker (weird logical jumps)
forgets what is was previously thinking (cant go backward)
and is just kind of like a racing train
@thatbirdboi actually no i will not i hate that post
I got 22,000 notes and wrecked my activity and is full of misinformation about inner speech
and ppl going huh?? And just talking about their own inner speech and MMMMM i have a lot of feelings about it
But yeah i deleted the post so u wont find it on my account, only in reblogs does it still exist
Im just far better educated on inner speech now,
and it was just a post of me rambling vague ideas and questions about it that ppl thought was me stating facts :(
I just mmmmm
Actually so yeah u get a vague annoyed summary
I am not annoyed at u more annoyed at this post i made pfff
