My opinions about the DA:I post-credit scene
Okay so I finally finished DA:I (don’t get me wrong, I pre-ordered the damn thing; I have over 350 hours played, I just have this weird thing about having problems finishing a game). I had heard many spoilers prior to it, especially concerning Solas so I basically already knew pretty much everything, including that he killed/possessed/whatever Flemeth/Mythal (or the other way around, as some say, but I personally rather believe the first version; more on that below).
I also heard many things about him being evil.
So, my impressions from the whole thing? I do NOT see him as an evil character at all. :/ I mean, I am not really all that into the lore theories and stuff, but to me, it does seem this way:
Solas is Fen’Harel, sure. The Elven old gods, from what I’ve gathered (and based on what Solas himself said...sure, he could have been lying to me but 1) I see no reason for him to lie here and 2) he really did sound sincere, all things considered), they are more like very powerful people - I somehow consider them to be similar to the Greek gods. Very, very powerful beings perceived as gods by people but ultimately very human (in this case, elven) with their problems, personalities, ambitions, and feelings.
Abelas says that Fen’Harel was not the one who murdered Mythal. Thus, the whole sealing away thing apparently was much more than we know. Solas also mentions that there were feuds and fights between the old gods and it seems only logical for that to play a large part in what had happened. No matter what went down, though, it seems to me that Solas wanted to use the orb to help the people (elves), maybe in an effort to mend his own mistakes, but he failed by giving it to Corypheus. And well, the whole thing with Flemeth seems more like a way for Solas to regain his power in order to help the people (as the whole thing with the orb failed, obviously).
The most important thing - remember what Flemeth said in the Fade - the soul cannot be forced upon anyone. Whatever went down between them, no matter who possessed whom, they were willing. They knew what would go down. They were okay with it. If Fen’Harel is the only one who can fix things (which seems to be the case, as Solas wants to repent but cannot because “the people need him”), him absorbing Mythal’s power would make sense (not the other way around). And as Mythal was also an elven god, her agreeing to it would also make sense. Not to mention that there was something going on before Solas arrived (Flemeth seemed to be doing something with the Eluvian), so who knows what precautions she could have made.
Also, I found some (apparently) confirmed notes from the game files, which I read only after writing this, saying that Solas did kill Flemeth (the rest of them confirming my impressions about Solas getting her powers and that she had given them up willingly; also about her giving up her godhood and passing it on through the Eluvian onto Morrigan). Then again, my good-natured Inquisitor killed many people. And apparently, for Solas the death of his old friend is a necessary thing to save the people. Which is something that would be done by many other people (and many people’s Inquisitors, I gather)...to trade a friend, a willing one on top of that, for the power to save everyone...Not a choice I would want to need to make. I imagine Solas/Fen’Harel hated to have to make the choice as well. But he had to and he did. (the notes might end up to be false/concept only, but it does fit :D )
So, in conclusion - Solas/Fen’Harel seems to me as a powerful yet flawed being, trying to fix his own mistakes. Not an evil bad boss guy. And, a note, I LOVE that character and I really DO hope that BioWare doesn’t stab me in the back and actually make him an evil boss character in DLC/DA4. So, please, BioWare? *puppy eyes*
