Can someone help me ID these (they’re in Washington state btw)? I’ve been trying to for like 8-9 months, and this is the first time I’ve been able to get photos, so overjoyed about that-
my leading theory is that they’re juvenile Harpaphe haydeniana, but I can’t find images of those to compare them against, and they aren’t the exact shape of the adults so I’m not sure- and when I try and find images of them treating them as a separate species I can’t, but I need to know
hii can u id this pleasee?? saw this around and cannot fly in my room. philippines (region 3, luzon)
I cannot stress how much I am NOT QUALIFIED to id moths from the Philippines, but this looks like a type of tiger moth (Erebidae family, Artiinae subfamily), and seems to be a match for the red costate tiger moth, Aloa lactinea
See: https://www.mothsofindia.org/aloa-lactinea
y’all what’s the difference between hunter’s little paper wasp and southern paper wasps?
i keep seeing paper wasps pop up on inaturalist and the id suggestions being one of those two because they appear in very similar areas - but looking through pictures i genuinely cannot tell the difference. i couldn’t find info about it online either
i’m kinda wondering how many times they’re mis-identified as each other making it even harder to tell the difference (on inaturalist at least)
at first i thought the difference was that southern paper wasps are far more lightly colored and hunter’s little paper wasp had much more black coloring - but looking through photos some southern paper wasps are shown with that similar black coloring as well? idk i’m so confused
and then there’s apache wasps too that also look like souther paper wasps
AAAAAAA
if anyone as a comprehensive guide to paper wasps i would so so much appreciate it :D
I'm on a trip to Japan, and have been taking pictures of all the moths I've spotted so far (there were a ton hanging out at this one temple) would you be able to id some of these lovelies? (Esp the first one. Thinking of getting a tattoo of it while I'm here)
Hey!! So from top to bottom, the moths are: Arichanna gaschkevitchii, Paradarisa chloauges, Carige scutilimbata, Scopula ignobilis, Melanaema venata, Euproctis piperita, Melanaema venata, Siccia altaica, anddd the last two I'm not sure about, although the almost uniformly brown one is probably a geometrid moth and the mottled one is a pug moth or carpet moth
P.S. take my ids of Paradarisa and Scopula with a pinch of salt as there are many similar-looking species of these types of moths (Boarmiini and Sterrhinae, respectively).
Thanks for the ask :>
I think maybe it's a wasp
i must ask for assistance from the intellectuals on this hell-site.
I caught a yellow fly during my law class. It has green eyes and a red dot on its forehead, with brown patterns on its wings. i found it a rather curious specimen, as i have yet to see another like it. if there is anyone willing to identify this little fly you are quite welcome to do so.
Phycoides tharos, aka Pearl Crescent, chilling on my field peas.
