Slurs
Everyone remember, “bug-man” is a racial slur. Call us Kreen or Tohr-Kreen. Or in our specific case Zik-Chil. If you must refer to us in less specific terms, call us “insect-man” (or in our case, “insect-woman”).
This is Insect Man from Spider-Man’s Tangled Web #10 by Kaare Andrews. He’s from an in-universe Superhero cartoon that bares a more than slight resemblance to Spider-Man.
It should be noted that this issue was published about a year and a half before Araña debuted and I find it kind of hilarious that the guy’s costume included a T-shirt, goggles, a backpack, and spikey-hair. So yeah in my head-cannon now Anya prior to becoming a superhero was a major Insect-Man fangirl and modeled her first attempt at a superhero costume after him. Also she and Kamala Khan have probably exchanged Insect Man Fan-Fics at some point.
