#insects lovers

I still have no idea how to ask on Tumblr but I'll give it a try.

I need the lyrics geniuses, the insects experts and the Matt Maltese fans!

In "Smile in the face of the devil" at the beginning he says:

it's been a bad run, you've had some bad tries

It's a small life, you're a horsefly

I can't understand why but the world "horsefly" makes me think of a specific person, and I can't seem to find the meaning of this insect.

Does anybody knows what it might stand for? I feel like he uses it in a sweet way but I've always known horseflies as bad insects, any suggestions?

We see a ladybug and immediately pick it up and pass it around, such a beautiful animal that we need to touch it to actually feel it. Do we do it in hope that its beauty will pass through our skin? Do we scare that little creature in the hope of getting some luck? Is this the reason why we're cursed?

Maybe the fact that we scream at bees and disturb ladybugs is the reason for our misfortune. Maybe the bee is waiting to be picked up, maybe the ladybug just wants to be let go of.
