'John can feel it in the back of his throat and teeth, the saltwater cutting at his gums. He knows where the waves lead. The untouched island at the edge of everything, wild and waiting.'
John and Sherlock attend a wedding. Things happen.
======
Rec: This is a beautiful, atmospheric fic set perhaps a couple of years after series 4, in which Sherlock and John attend Molly and Greg’s wedding, drink too much, and share an intimate moment on the dance floor, which leads to all of their barriers breaking down. I especially enjoyed the cozy cocoon of a mood that this created, awash with fresh emotion yet steadfastly anchored in the family unit they have already created.

#so real
„Before headstones and adulterous text messages, he could have believed this. Amid some other life this would fit, the pieces would slot together as if they’d never been broken in the first place. But in this version, those fragments are still embedded in the carpet at Baker Street and every time John tries to pick them up, fresh cuts appear on his hands and heart. He bleeds, and Sherlock watches with Rosie in his arms. They solve cases and laugh and share food, and just as John thinks he’s collected all the damage, he finds another shard, stuck there in the weave of threads.“
