Have you any exciting plans this week-end?

I am having dinner at the Diogenes, then the elder Mr. Holmes and I are going to see Hernani by Victor Hugo. After that, the younger Holmes will probably call on me to assist with current case. If he does not, I will simply enjoy the quiet of my home with Arthur.

Perhaps attempting to catch the mouse would prove fruitful. You could try communicating with the creature, then, or bringing it to Baker Street to see if Holmes' mouse tenants get along with it.

Perhaps there is some merit to that answer, I cannot imagine that the Chief Superintendent will be pleased to learn there is a rodent in the office, no matter how dapper he is.

I shall leave out bits of carrot for him to see if that entices him.

Have you tried speaking to this mouse, or perhaps rat?

Of course not, I'm not mad. Holmes can say what he will about my intellect, but my sanity has never rightfully been questioned.

Though, if they are able to make their own clothes, they may have some ability for higher reasoning. I had previously assumed the clothes were made for them by some bored woman.

A mouse in clothes on two legs? Are you sure you are getting enough sleep?

I do not know that it was a mouse, it may well has been a rat, but yes, I am reasonably confident in my perception. Holmes and Watson have small unusual, small tenants of their own. They are content to let the mice be, so perhaps I shall as well.

Any interesting cases you're working on at the moment?

None that I am at liberty to speak of. However, recently I have noticed what I believe to be a mouse in my office. The peculiar thing is that it seems to be wearing clothes and running along on two legs. It also seems to be missing its tail. I have not yet located its hiding places or its means of entry.

Does Gregson have a wife?

No. He's unbearable, no woman should have to be in his presence for prolonged periods of time. He asked for Beatrice's hand in marriage once, but that would have been a terrible idea. The Lestrade house is too small for two couples and my sister relies on the care my wife provides while we men work. At this point, my sister would not tolerate a different nurse. Moving would also cause great stress to poor Arthur.
