Valery Kharlamov died shortly before the start of the Canada Cup-81. Hockey players of the USSR team vowed to take the Cup at any cost.

When fans in the USSR and Canada learned that Valery Kharlamov will not be among the participants of the tournament, they were shocked by the decision of the coaching staff of the team. Moreover, Kharlamov was well rolled in the season, because at the end of it he planned to end his legendary career. But, with Kharlamov or without the USSR team had to fight with the best hockey teams in the world such as Canada, USA, Sweden, Finland, Czechoslovakia and prove once again the power of Soviet hockey.
